Infographic with the headline: “The deadliest thing about fentanyl isn’t actually fentanyl.” It explains that people may not know what is in a substance, how strong it is, whether it is mixed with other substances, whether the dose has changed, or whether their tolerance has changed. The graphic argues that contamination and unknown potency have made the drug supply more dangerous. It emphasizes that information is not encouragement, that ignorance creates danger, and that the goal is preventing unnecessary deaths.

A blue graphic with a subtle geometric pattern and a white decorative border. In the center, white text reads: “If shame cured addiction, we would have solved the overdose crisis a long time ago.” The logo and name “End It For Good” appear at the bottom. The message emphasizes that shame and stigma are ineffective responses to addiction and overdose.

One day you're young and then the next you're standing in the backyard like Christopher Walken staring at your bird feeder.
A meme with text at the top reading, “One day you’re young and then the next you’re standing in the backyard like this staring at your bird feeder.” Below, an older Christopher Walken
stands stiffly in a garden, wearing a plain dark T-shirt and high-waisted pants, staring blankly ahead with a serious expression. The background shows lush greenery and plants, giving the impression of a quiet backyard scene.

Bereaved Mother’s Day held on the first Sunday in May, honours mothers who carry a love the world no longer sees. The day recognizes that your motherhood endures & the bond with your child remains part of you always. May it offer a gentle space to remember, to grieve, and to be seen in your own way.
A soft-toned graphic for Bereaved Mother’s Day (May 3, 2026) with small heart illustrations and watercolor flowers along the bottom. The text reads: “There are no words we can offer that will provide comfort for the loss you feel. Your pain is not overlooked today. Your sorrow and your child are not forgotten. We hold space for all our mothers in our hearts today and always.” The website healingheartscanada.org appears at the bottom.

The UCP has completely lost the plot. Is this honestly what they think matters right now? ‘More time for family’ is just spin .. permanent DST could mean 10 a.m. winter sunrises and real health impacts. Add water concerns and 18 laws bundled together—this isn’t serious policy its insanity.

My friend Kathleen’s son Tyrone didn’t choose to die. He was taken by a poisoned drug supply. More than 18,000 people have died in the ten years since B.C. declared a public health emergency, and still, the crisis continues. This isn’t inevitable. It’s a failure to act.

Involuntary care fails to improve outcomes & raises overdose risk. Real care is voluntary meaning available harm reduction options, accessible treatment, housing and long-term supports. Punishment dressed as care is not that and never has been. We need evidence-based compassion, not coercion.

This image says it clearly and compassionately. Naloxone isn’t about labels .. it’s about being prepared. Accidents happen to seniors, kids, pets, and families every day. Having naloxone means you care enough to be ready. It saves lives. Every life matters 💜 #naloxonesavelives
Graphic with the headline “Naloxone isn’t just for people who use substances.” It lists everyday scenarios where naloxone can save lives, alongside photos: an older woman holding pill bottles, a baby with a pill, a dog sniffing the ground outdoors, and a parent hugging a child. The message emphasizes that unexpected overdoses can happen in ordinary homes and that having naloxone ready saves lives. Ends with “Every life is worth saving” and the Steps of Hope logo.

We keep hearing claims that the toxic drug crisis is “over,” but the numbers tell a very different story. From Alberta’s own Substance Use Surveillance data: Edmonton drug poisoning deaths • Jan–Aug 2024: 428 • Jan–Aug 2025: 510 That’s an increase, not a decline.
Graph with numbers of substance use deaths for Edmonton, Alberta from 2024 and 2025. The graph clearly shows that the numbers of deaths are in fact higher in the same time period in 2025

It will always be there… somewhere.”

A woman as a witch stirring a cauldron labeled with Alberta’s crest, holding a syringe and spoon. Surrounded by jars, she says, “A sprinkle of fear, dash of bile, pinch of spite… divide the people, that’s the plot.” Critique of divisive political tactics.
Alt text:
A black-and-white political cartoon shows a woman dressed as a witch stirring a cauldron labeled with the Alberta provincial crest. She holds a syringe in one hand and a large spoon in the other. Surrounding her are jars and bottles labeled with symbols suggesting poison or toxic ingredients. A speech bubble reads:
“A sprinkle of fear, dash of bile, pinch of spite to make it vile. Stoke the fire, stir the pot, divide the people, that’s the plot.”
The cartoon is signed “P. LaMontagne” and appears to critique divisive political tactics through a witch’s brewing metaphor.

When the Alberta government claims that deaths from the toxic drug crisis are decreasing or stabilizing, take a look at this graph — it tells a very different story. Involuntary care won’t fix this. Compassion, harm reduction, on-demand voluntary treatment options, and real supports will.

Harm reduction isn’t a replacement for systemic change—it’s frontline care born from necessity. From overdose prevention to safer sex supplies, it saves lives while we fight for justice, housing, and healthcare. Survival is not the finish line; the goal is a world where everyone can thrive.
WHAT HARM REDUCTION IS NOT?
A Replacement for Systemic Change
It's a practice born from necessity-filling in where systems fall short. But harm reduction isn't a substitute for justice, housing, or healthcare.
From overdose prevention to safer sex supplies to mutual aid, it responds to the immediate needs of people navigating harm, stigma, and survival.
It's not the finish line-it's the frontline.
A strategy that saves lives while we demand the systems people deserve.
Treating harm reduction as the end goal lets institutions off the hook. But this work has always been about more than survival-it's about building the
conditions where everyone can thrive.

Prohibition is the Crisis. For over a century, drug markets have been controlled through ineffective law enforcement. Since the 1908 Opium Act, prohibition has forced trade underground, fueling contamination and organized crime, making everyone less safe.
Purple background graphic with bold white text at the top that reads: “Prohibition is the Crisis.” Below, a yellow exclamation mark in a circle separates the header from the main text, which says: “For over a century, we have refused to regulate drug markets with anything other than ineffective law enforcement approaches. Beginning with the Opium Act of 1908, we have pushed the drug trade underground, which fuels contamination and empowers organized crime. It makes all of us, whether we use drugs or not, less safe.” At the bottom is a white heart-shaped stethoscope icon, followed by the words: “Doctors for Safer Drug Policy.”

I checked the Alberta Substance Use Surveillance System stats this morning. March 2025 still holds the record for the highest number of substance-related deaths in Edmonton since reporting began in 2016. With today’s update, the total has increased by one - now at 88 lives lost in a single month.
Graph with blue lines that shows January at 62, February at 65, March at 88 and April at 69 - these are the numbers of people who have died to substances in 2025 so far
