I was reading a Moomin book to my daughter (our first one!) and it felt a lot like reading Rootabaga Stories by Carl Sandburg which just made it feel even more charming and warm to me 🥰

I’ve been trying to think of silver linings lately and “not hearing Pingu’s voice” for a good year+ is pretty high on that list

There's a great picture book on Jerry Lawson, written by my friend Don Tate and illustrated by Cherise Harris! #BlackHistory

It probably doesn't mean I can sit at the published author table at scbwi conferences, but a bath book I designed will be coming soon to a tub near you and I'm still darn proud of it. 😀 I mean okay Caldecott but does your book SQUEAK?

Finally mailing off this holiday gift to my dear cousins. I normally find acrylic unforgiving but I enjoyed painting this one

I spent the last month listening to #StormlightArchive in order to remember everything for the latest book release. As a result my brain has made these (unfortunate) permanent associations. Sorry #BrandonSanderson

#folktaleweek2024 #folktaleweek Day 3 Blight Garden magic is the domain of donkeycorns, naturally. Poor mice, I wonder if they are tired of being caught up in magic business? It happens to them a lot! #kidlitart

Day one is Mist for #folktaleweek #folktaleweek2024 I drew this thinking of a Care Bear like Yeti! They would live in a cozy ice cube quilt house on top of a misty mountain with lots of pajamas and goat friends. Don’t you think?

Pastel ice cube cottage with a yeti shaped door and goats frolicking around it

Hi #kidlitartpostcard day! I’m Heather, an author-illustrator. I especially love drawing animals with hooves and quirky things to make myself laugh- like Santa raiding the fridge! Seeking representation!

A parody of a classic Golden Book cover I did for fun, illustrating Will Cuppy’s hilarious essay on Scorpions in How to Attract the Wombat. I want to put it all online but I’m not 100% the text is public domain.

I know Albrecht Durer is an art legend but I think he might have also been a bit of a bratwurst. So I made this possibly fictional comic about him #arthistory #comic #Albrechtjustmowyourlawn

I used to dream in picture books, but art school in the 90s broke art for me for a long time. It took another trauma to get it back. Here’s a comic I drew about that time. It’s rough and grief and hope

My illustrator wish list is to illustrate a #pb about a kid and their service pony (at a theme park?) but I want the story to be #ownvoices
