Sources have told the Guardian that Trump made three calls to Fifa, starting from Wednesday, to ensure that the change was made and Balogun's one-game ban was suspended. www.theguardian.com/football/202...

Trump lobbied Fifa to lift Folarin Balogun suspension for World Cup game v Belgium
The US striker was shown red in the team’s last-32 match, but the card and its suspension were thought to not be eligible for appeal.

Trump called Infantino on Wednesday to get Balogun's red card lifted. Nice to ride alon with Tyler Pager on what will be seen (and is) in many parts as one of the biggest scandals in World Cup history. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/05/u...

A reminder that Infantino said in 2017 that all qualified teams, their fans and officials, need to have access to a host country, otherwise it can't host. There are already numerous (predictable) US visa issues with the World Cup about to kick off and likely more to come.
Infantino was asked about the issue at the time and responded clearly, saying that if teams and supporters couldn’t access a country, there would be no World Cup there.

“We are now in the process of defining the bid requirements,” Infantino said in 2017. “In the world, there are many countries that have bans, travel bans, visa requirements and so on and so forth.

“It’s obvious when it comes to Fifa competitions, that any team — including the supporters and officials of that team — who qualify for a World Cup, need to have access to the country, otherwise there is no World Cup.

“The requirements will be clear. And then each country can make up their decision, whether they want to bid or not, based on the requirements.”

The Age of Corporate Capitulation Won’t Work
Donald Trump came for Jimmy Kimmel. Disney folded immediately. It’s not just bad morals. It’s bad business.

God damn it, Robbo...
Picture of Caoimhin Kelleher and Andy Robertson with thwir partners flanking Diogo Jota and his wife on their wedding day with a beautiful backdrop of a huge stone gate. Picture of a group of men dressed up at a horse race, including Andy Robertson and Diogo Jota who was sporting a Peaky Blinders style cap. The ones I'm thinking about most right now are the family. Their loss is too much to bear. I'm so sorry that they have lost two such precious souls - Diogo and Andre.

For the team and the Club, we'll try to cope with this together... however long that takes.

For me, I want to talk about my mate. My buddy. The bloke I loved and will miss like crazy.

I could talk about him as a player for hours, but none of that feels like it matters right now.

It's the man. The person. He was such a good guy. The best. So genuine. Just normal and real.

Full of love for the people he cared about. Full of fun.

He was the most British foreign player I've ever met. We used to joke he was really Irish... I'd try to claim him as Scottish, obviously. I even called him Diogo MacJota.

We'd watch the darts together, enjoy the horse racing. Going to Cheltenham this season was a highlight - one of the best we had.

The last time I saw him was the happiest day of his life - his wedding day. I want to remember his never-ceasing smile from that magical day. How much he was bursting with love for his wife and family.

I can't believe we're saying goodbye. It's too soon, and it hurts so much.

But thank you for being in my life, mate and for making it better.

Love you, Diogo.

Musk should be asked about this in every interview he does now and forever. To ignore it is a dereliction of duty. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/30/o...
There is one place, however, where Musk, with the help of his minions, achieved his goals. He did indeed shred U.S.A.I.D. Though a rump operation is now operating inside the State Department, the administration says that it has terminated more than 80 percent of U.S.A.I.D. grants. Brooke Nichols, an associate professor of global health at Boston University, has estimated that these cuts have already resulted in about 300,000 deaths, most of them of children, and will most likely lead to significantly more by the end of the year. That is what Musk’s foray into politics accomplished.
