At this point in the story B1-48-B is before the first Kingly Molt. He won’t start seeing serious changes until he molts the first time & his innards start aligning with his new caste. Typically, this process happens after the Colony King dies - but it can happen for other reasons.

Some information on the caste system and what each caste does in the colony. There are a lot of colonies on their planet- and each one does function differently than the others - but some things are relatively the same. The caste system does have differing ratios but is always present.

Some information on the Mutri Colony, how it’s set up and how they get around. The tunnels are basically endless and go in every direction- some are sheer cliffs. Mapping the colony can only be done by traversing it - since Mutri are very sensitive to echolocation devices.

Soon after the human crew moved in, they quickly set up inspection & cleaning stations for the Mutri. Group grooming is a pleasurable experience for most Mutri, and they took to being inspected/cleaned very easily. Some did abuse the system, tho, returning time and time again with “complaints” :3c

Nick is one of the human crew that was sent into the worst affected area of the colony. He had only ever lived on Earth before now-although he’s studied aliens he’s never gotten the chance to meet any. B1-48-B has never studied aliens, and knows nothing about life outside the colony, and loves Nick.

Ok making an alien species. Calling them “Mutri” - a hive species. They’re difficult to communicate with because theyre very instinctual and a lot of rules need to be followed while in their colony. But when a mold starts causing colony collapse the Mutri call out to the Alliance for help.

Privacy is hard to find inside the colony. Human crews will camp inside the structure for several months at a time. B1 takes his job as guide very seriously & will sit outside the tents. Nick, after a strenuous day, thought he we being quiet enough. His scent tho? (BTW Nick is a very shy person)

Frankly the biggest barrier to my considering AI as a valid tool isn't the ecological or community impacts or even the blatant content theft but the way some people take its output as more valid than what an actual human expert says to their face when asked the same question.
