I so appreciate this essay. The language of chronic illness is problematic at best and often impossible. I’ve written about this from the perspective of someone with metastatic cancer. Even in remission, as I am now, there is no good language to express the sustained weirdness of my body.

Senator Parent asked me to send you the following statement:
"Thank you for reaching out to me to express your support for Georgia's LGBTQ+ community. I am committed to ensuring dignity, humanity, and equality for all Georgians--particularly those who are members of the LGBTQ+ community, who are constantly attacked by Georgia’s republican majority. I have always voted according to my values, and fought against every piece of transphobic legislation. Examples include voting against bills to ban trans kids playing on the sports team of their gender identity, gender-affirming care bans for minors, and bans on puberty blockers. I also proactively supported numerous civil rights protections for the LGBTQ+ community. But, As the representative of all of the people of the 44th District, it is my job to take into consideration the views of the majority of my constituency. As you are probably aware, this has been a very difficult time nationally regarding the discussion of transgender rights. The reality is the majority of the voters in my district and statewide do not support tax-payer funded gender-affirming surgeries on convicted prisoners. I am committed to representing all residents of District 44, including the LGBTQ+ community."

Senator Parent is opposed to SB 30 and will vote no when it comes to the Senate Floor today.
