Ōtautahi friends, do you have room on your fence for my face? I'm campaigning for Council in Papanui Ward, and am in need of some sites for election signs, especially in the Redwood/Papanui area. Thanks to those who have already offered! Reposts appreciated too :)

TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT ON DRINKING WATER
WHICH COUNCILLORS VOTED AGAINST NITRATE TESTING?
Last month, some Environment Canterbury Councillors voted against region-wide water nitrate testing events in Canterbury that would improve awareness regarding water quality. The motion passed, but it was too close for comfort.

Lists councillors who voted for :
For
Greg Brynes (Christchurch Central)
Grant Edge (North Canterbury)
Peter Scott (South Canterbury)
Tutehounuku ‘Nuk’ Korako (Ngāi Tahu)
Craig Pauling (Christchurch West)
Vicky Southwarth (Christchurch South)
Paul Dietsche (Christchurch South)
Genevieve Robinson (Christchurch Central)

Voted against
Against
Claire McKay (North Canterbury)
David East (Christchurch North East)
John Sunckell (Mid Canterbury)
Deon Swiggs (Christchurch West)
Ian McKenzie (Mid Canterbury)
Nick Ward (South Canterbury)
Joe Davies (Christchurch North East)

Councillors were asked to vote on a motion to request a report from ECan staff on running region-wide nitrate testing for private well owners. The motion passed with a slim majority, but another vote will be needed once the report is returned to council and water testing events can commence.

However, Wellington mayor Tory Whanau said the new information clearly showed that members of Vision for Wellington had
lobbied the Government around intervention, "despite previously denying this was the case".
She took a swipe at the hand several of the group had previously had in running the city. "It's important to remind them, and the Government, that they do not stand for or represent Wellington, and are partially responsible for some of the historical issues Wellington now faces.

7 of Christchurch’s Councillors and the IHP Panelists say that it’s too far from here to the other side of Bealey Ave and that we shouldn’t have a walkable catchment here. What a day to be alive in our beautiful city!

This is disappointing. A 0 meter walking catchment is not acceptable for the North side of the city. There’s no excuse for not upzoning this area given its proximity and level of service.

Vulnerable road users don't suddenly become "less vulnerable" because its a main road with "lots of drivers". That's just driver exceptionalism. In fact casualty stats show that main roads need 20mph limits just as much as residential roads. #20splenty where people are.

We have to stop listening to business owners when making transportation decisions because they are woefully misinformed They will say things like "only one cyclist bikes here a year" for a street with hundreds of cyclists biking there in one afternoon
"I think we see one bicycle come through there every single year, with thousands of cars. I know the businesses are just losing their hair over having those bike lanes in Etobicoke on Bloor Street," said the premier, who is also the MPP for Etobicoke North.

(A few days later, a bike counter at Bloor Street and Keele Street, about three kilometres east of Etobicoke, showed 415 cyclists had used the lane as of that afternoon, and 189,587 since the machine was installed that summer).

New Zealand exists in a state of 'we can barely maintain our current infrastructure capacity', combined with an attitude that even when we do replace things, it can't improve what was before. Wholly unserious country.
