Of course you're abolutely right about average incomes there, much higher.

ccss.public.lu/en/parametre... This says 17% for pension from employment taxes, plus 8.5% from the government, so 25.5% into the pension fund in total.

But that's for everything. The 25.5% is just for the pension.

The Luxembourg state pension is funded by a tax of 25.5% on gross incomes (split between employers and employees), a lot more than we pay in the UK, and any surplus is invested on international markets. Quite unlike the UK system. Would a 25% tax just for pensions be supported electorally in the UK?

So tired of billionaires. Who cares what they think? Stay and pay tax, then you can comment. Otherwise, leave and shut up.

I imagine the distributor can influence scheduling, but the big guys have software (often using AI :-)) that does it centrally and the smaller ones do it themselves. It's one of the reasons you generally don't see the following week's schedule until Thursday or Friday a lot of the time.

Mark @harkym.bsky.social · 25/08/2026
I think mostly cinemas do the scheduling, not studios or distributors. Still sounds like someone's making bad decisions though.

Can't beat David Copperfield on this question:
Some happy talent, and some fortunate opportunity, may form the two sides of the ladder on which some men mount, but the rounds of that ladder must be made of stuff to stand wear and tear; and there is no substitute for thorough-going, ardent, and sincere earnestness

100% agree. I am waiting for good solar tiles that look as good as traditional tiles, and I only just discovered air to air heat pumps, which can also do AC. When to dive in when it keeps changing?

His comments on Mythos on the Today Programme (Anthropic's shiny new hacking thing) were embarrassingly misinformed. Cyber security practitioners are achieving the same sorts of results with previous iterations and a bit of human know-how.

They really need to learn that paying taxes is the happy outcome for them.
