In case you were wondering

Watching New Girl all the way through for the first time, and this is possibly the most tragic thing that’s ever happened in a sitcom

A still from the original opening titles. Jess (Zooey Deschanel) is in the centre, framed by a large, oval picture frame hanging from the ceiling. Either side of her, Nick (Jake Johnson) and Winston (Lamorne Morris) are holding green cardboard cutouts of the words “New” and “Girl” respectively. Below her, Schmidt (Max Greenfield) is holding a smaller cutout of the word “Jess” in a ribbon-like shape.

A still from the later opening titles. It features generic photos of the cast, collaged together in a haphazard, visually unappealing way. The words “New Girl” — blue with a yellow outline — appear over the top at a 45° angle, in a style reminiscent of word art from the 90s and early 2000s.

This Tuesday! The line-up has been written down, the readings have been rehearsed and the rough cuts have been edited. Should be a fun night… 🥳

It features a partial 5 x 5 grid of photos, people and text — on a background of a photo negative of the sky.

New Substack post! This one is about collaborating with other writers and finding your people 🥳 harihkanth.substack.com/p/finding-yo...

A screenshot from a Substack article, which is dark text on a white background. The text reads:

The advantages are obvious: it’s easier to come up with ideas if you can bounce off other people; it’s easier to tell if your jokes are funny if someone else is laughing at them; it’s easier to find comfort if you’ve been staring at the same block of text for three hours and have completely lost faith in your ability to use words corfumply.

But not all collaboration is made equal, and it took me a lot of trial and error to figure out the combinations of people that seem to work well together. So if you’re currently building your own comedy scenius, here are the three things I think you need:

I usually retweet the previous update for context, but this screenshot will have to do…

A screenshot of a tweet. It is mostly white text on a dark background. The text reads:

- Tentative forward progress: 3 (+0)
