The US and UAE established a corridor to get more oil out of the Gulf, involving smaller ships and at-sea transfers to larger tankers. So Iran fired at more ships. This isn’t the sort of situation one can sneak around, at least not for any sort of lasting solution.

Can’t Allow Elon Musk the Power to Intervene in Wars No individual should be able to disrupt military ops like Musk did with Ukraine’s. I wrote that when he did it in 2023. Was told the problem was contract rules. Nope. Happened again. The problem is too much power, esp for an enemy of democracy.

The U.S. Government Can’t Allow Elon Musk the Power to Intervene in Wars
The billionaire’s interference in Ukrainian military operations shows he’s a national security risk. No private citizen should have that much power.

The US knows Ukrainian air defense relies on US early detection of Russian launches. Without telling Ukraine, the Trump White House (and Elon Musk's SpaceX) withheld that info and hindered countermeasures. The US just facilitated a Russian attack on Ukraine, making it more effective and deadlier.

Exposure is a first step towards accountability, but real accountability needs punishment, yes. Put it this way: Should a grand effort to overthrow US democracy that involved a lot of lawbreaking go down as a cautionary tale—a Do Not—or as a thing to try again because the consequences are minimal?

The More You Know Star Rainbow Streak
Alt: The More You Know PSA animation from NBC in the 90s. It features a black background with pinpoints of stars and shooting stars. 3D block letters in blue reading "THE MORE YOU KNOW"ride on a 5-point shooting star trailing sparkling rainbow as it separates from the phrase and grows brighter until it's just an explosion of light dissolving into the NBC peacock logo

Given the competition, it’s pretty impressive that Trump has somehow managed to hire his worst ever press secretary. Katie Zacharia is a fake lawyer, can barely read aloud, and has zero personality at the podium. The bar is so low it’s in hell.

Oh yeah, what if I unplug my router? So many of these warnings assume that hooking everything up to their systems is the priority. I think this is supposed to be hype for Claude, but it's better as an argument against smart home devices.

NEW: I wrote about why so many people wanted to believe that Ukrainian airstrikes on a Russian data center reduced troll and bot activity online, even though it's almost certainly not true. Featuring @noupside.bsky.social: www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

I'm morbidly curious to see what happens when oil, natural gas, gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel reserves run out. Meaning I think it will be quite bad, and would greatly prefer if it didn't happen, but I don't know what the aftereffects will be, so if it must happen, I'm curious to see how it goes.

The White House Press Corps is fine being treated with contempt and repeatedly lied to. They’ll play along with Katie Zacharia too. The only thing they’ve shown they won’t tolerate is multiple prominent members losing access, which threatens acces for them all. Is that wrong? Then show the public.

😬 Katie Zacharia's first press briefing was brutally bad 😬 Trump managed to find a press secretary who can barely read, but she does have the number one qualification -- looking like Ivanka Here's a supercut from Zacharia's first briefing, which made Karoline Leavitt seem like Ronald Reagan

Do you think X is really the source of their “both sides” bullshit? Or is it being trapped in the 80s/90s when both parties were still sort-of functional?

“Being on X breaks your brain” can be seen in the Dem/lib/centrist pundits, consultants, and commentators who proclaimed a big “vibe shift,” defend Nazi tattoos and misogyny as “working class values,” and insist anti-immigrant and anti-trans are keys to elections because that’s just public opinion.

I don’t think the president of the United States should lie on behalf of China and Russia, publicly defending their work helping Iran kill Americans. To me, siding with US enemies is bad, not good, and the US president should oppose that instead. Sorry to get so partisan, but that’s how I feel.

With Trump openly admitting his announced Russia-Ukraine “energy ceasefire” was nothing more than words out of his mouth—no actual ceasefire, not even words from Ukraine or Russia that they’re violating, just empty BS—can the press finally stop with headlines presenting his pronouncements as fact?

Executing a search warrant while early voting is underway in Minnesota, on an old, moldy "crime" is all you need to know about the motivation here. Absolutely no reason not to wait until the second week of November. It's abundantly clear that this is about politics, not a legitimate prosecution.

Tech industry leaders are mostly ideological techno-fascists or rich businesspeople who ingratiate themselves to state power. The former are enemies of democracy. The latter will come around when govt changes hands. "But what if they do what they're already doing" is an awful reason for weakness.

Why are so many Americans in positions of authority like naive children? Where’ve you been the last two years? Last decade, really? How do you not recognize bad faith, especially when you see it repeatedly? Or did you recognize it but give them benefit of the doubt anyway? Why would you do that?

“I have done everything humanly possible to give the government the benefit of the doubt in this case. I have done it repeatedly.” Why would you do that, judge? Did you think they deserve it on the merits? Did you expect that to get them to respect adverse rulings rather than take it as permission?

The "Party of Reagan" has the United States siding with Russian aggression against NATO allies and a brutal war on a European democratic US partner. Yes, the whole party. If they didn't, they would impeach and remove the president who is blatantly breaking US law to help fund Russia's war effort.
