hey @happyview.dev i'm sorry to break it to you, but there's a new fastest appview in town... indexing all `community.lexicon.calendar.event` and `community.lexicon.calendar.rsvp` records a whooping 3.4% faster (and with 13 records more)

+1 for the single scheme (at:// with the /space/ segment). I’ve built this in HappyView, so I’ll try to speak to how it’s working.

First off, HappyView currently supports both formats. I built support for the ats:// based on Dan’s dev diaries, then added at:// after the proposal PR was closed. After building all of this out, I personally lean towards at://.

The /space/ disambiguator has worked well in HappyView: the parser decides space-vs-record on the literal space segment alone, with no network call, no lexicon resolution, and no DB lookup. Dan’s reasoning for it holds up. Being able to tell what’s on the other side of a URI without first resolving a lexicon makes the code a lot simpler.

@bnewbold.net and @ngerakines.me are right that the two read paths barely share any machinery. Public and private records in HappyView are largely separate pipelines. But I don’t think that’s a problem with the scheme. They’re just different sync mechanisms and they were always going to be, regardless of what we call them. What a shared at:// does give us is one namespace and one mental model, which still feels worthwhile to me.

Having built it both ways, spaces do feel like part of atproto regardless of which scheme we use. Same DIDs, same lexicons, same OAuth, same data model… Spaces are just a different sync mechanism behind a permission boundary. I’d rather the scheme say that plainly, and I think the /space/ segment achieves that just fine without a separate scheme.

I've (finally) leveraged HappyView for the backend of my new time tracking app (time.chrispardy.dev) Specifically I'm leveraging the private spaces so that time log entries don't live publicly. Overall it was easy to setup and deploy and get working as the backend to a static frontend.

Yes, @happyview.dev is finally going to support service proxying. As long as your XRPCs don't call other XRPCs, you'll be able to use HapyView /without/ using its custom oauth. 😎

We are /so close/ to having proper support for service proxying. With that, HappyView will be able to operate as a totally normal AppView. You'll lose the magic that comes with authenticating users directly thru HappyView, but you'll be able to proxy calls thru a PDS to HappyView. #atproto

New interface for tracking backfills in @happyview.dev. It updates in real-time to provide a much better view into how the backfill is going. Backfill jobs can also resume after a restart now, which wasn't always the case. #atproto

I'm working through @dholms.at's latest dev diary. Most of the things that impact the @happyview.dev impl (e.g. URI scheme) are easy changes. However, he describes space types as NSIDs that resolve to Lexicon documents which define the modality of a space (forum, group chat, album, etc). #atproto
