And the absolute tantrums thrown during the bear vs man thing really showed how so many men are at best totally unaware how common sexual harassment and worse are. It became tribalist nonsense instead of recognising there's a hugely underreported problem.

And I do wonder how many of them are actually aware of what's coming, and are just ensuring the populace remains distracted and divided til they've earned the maximum amount of unspendable wealth and their luxury bunkers are ready.

It's only an issue if it affects people's livelihoods it seems. Doesn't matter if we cause more extinctions of the wild animals and planets we share this ancient planet with as long as some people are making money through it. And of course these are not statements I agree with at all.

The climate change deniers do have a point that the models are wrong. They're wrong because there's so many other complex things like this that can't be easily predicted or evaluated as the earth hurtles towards a far different norm than the one that most complex life now adapted to.

At worst, it's hard to say, whether it becomes independent of us, or it becomes ever more restricting on the majority of the populace while being mostly controlled by a select few holding the reins that wish to maintain their position at the top regardless of the consequences for everyone else

At best it's a massive waste of energy with some niche uses, but is being propelled into more and more applications for the large firms behind it to justify the amount they've spent on it, where recognising it is an unnecessary mistake will speed up the collapse of the excitement driven bubble.

It must be comforting for them to only ever think of their attention seeking self inflicted martyr as if a school teacher throwing an absolutely ridiculous childish tantrum over being asked to refer to someone as "they" is some great casualty of an imagined war on Christianity.

And as neoliberal establishment parties of left and right let down their populaces over and over, it's understandable why there's such a growth in populist movements, but seems they're far more comfortable ensuring the populist right takes over than any sort of left to challenge root causes

Damn our tendency as a species to regard what surrounds us in the natural world as mere commodities that are simply there to be utilised, owned and get rich from. Maybe we wouldn't be in such a mess if we could see the real world more clearly, and not simply filtered through the human bubble

Here is my main opinion on AI, in every capacity: What is the point of technology? Is it to make our lives better and easier, or is it to make a very small percentage of people richer? The latter is what AI is doing. The people actually doing the coding are making themselves redundant.

"The truth is far more frightening - Nobody is in control. The world is rudderless." -Alan Moore I do feel it sums up quite a lot of how folk can think these things. It's nice to know someone has a plan, even if it's a hostile plan. We like patterns and James Bond villainesque plots of good Vs bad

From Plass's article "We shall be able to test the CO2 theory against other theories conclusively during the next half-century.... "if carbon dioxide is the most important factor, long-term temperature records will rise continuously as long as man consumes the earth’s reserves of fossil fuels."
Sixty six years ago, on this day, July 1st, 1959, Canadian physicist Gilbert Plass has an article in Scientific American about … carbon dioxide build-up.

During the past century a new geological force has begun to exert its effect upon the carbon dioxide equilibrium of the earth]. By burning fossil fuels man dumps approximately six billion tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year [as of 2025 it’s about 40 billion tons]. His agricultural activities release two billion tons more. Grain fields and pastures store much smaller quantities of carbon dioxide than the forests they replace, and the cultivation of the soil permits the vast quantities of carbon dioxide produced by bacteria to escape into the air.

And

We shall be able to test the carbon dioxide theory against other theories of climatic change quite conclusively during the next half-century. Since we now can measure the sun’s energy output independent of the distorting influence of the atmosphere, we shall see whether the earth’s temperature trend correlates with measured fluctuations in solar radiation. If volcanic dust is the more important factor, then we may observe the earth’s temperature following fluctuations in the number of large volcanic eruptions. But if carbon dioxide is the most important factor, long-term temperature records will rise continuously as long as man consumes the earth’s reserves of fossil fuels.

Exactly. Many folk think of 1-2°C as something minor because it seems to not be too bad, not understanding that it's better to think of that in terms of a massive amount of extra heat energy in the earth system which may cause instability and changing norms at an accelerating rate.

Not saying it's going to be nice or not utter chaos as it happens, but the sooner mankind loses it's strange hold on the planet, the better. How much of our current issues are due to the conceited belief that we are "masters" of nature instead of recognising we are part of it. It's naive arrogance
