FurAffinity (a furry focused online art gallery) is looking for funding after refusing to comply with advertiser demands. And oh boy are some of those advertiser demands pretty ridiculous. (alt text added)

A post from a FurAffinity developer blog which says:

What makes this situation frustrating is that the bar for what advertisers consider "adult content" is very very low. For example they consider plus size characters, two characters hugging, and "barbie doll nudity" to be adult content, despite these being normal everyday things that are not adult at all. This is why you may see other sites with restrictions on how characters cant be posed or dressed "too provocatively."

We receive a daily list of items that they have flagged as violations and have to sort through them. If they're legitimate violations, we re-rate them. If they aren't, we don't touch them. Submissions that are not violations of our policies are still held against us.

We have had many email conversations, Zoom calls, and even an in-person meeting with representatives to help resolve this to no avail.

I think the biggest trap is the emotional blocker that media is a puzzle, and if you answer wrong you will look foolish. And some stuff might have 'accepted interpetations' and some dinguses might actually be jerks to you, but in general you kinda just fuck around with what you see and feel.

Since it's come up a bunch for me lately. Media/Lit analysis and even creating with themes in mind is actually easy. It's like drawing. You just do it. You might lack the skills to articulate an image or an idea or a feeling, and you might not be aware of common tricks and themes, but that's fine!

Q: "Is this a horror game?"

A: I don't consider it one. It has horror like elements and randomness to it, but I never intentionally go out of my way to make something jump out loudly at the player. Everything "horror" is either environmental, or some imagery that can be found in the game. Horror is not the focus of this game, the elements are just for world building and making it even more weird / unusual feeling!

Q: "Are there any jumpscares?"

A: There are no intentional jumpscares in this game. There are moments and things that can happen to make the player feel uneasy while playing or to throw them off, but nothing meant to intentionally startle the player. If anything comes off as such when the demo releases I ask that people tell me so I can adjust it accordingly.

Q: "Is this bait and switch?"

A: The bait and switch was that I teased it like it was gonna be like every other horror game only for it to be a horror-inspired 3D platformer. The game is very direct on what it is from the start and stays focused from start to finish despite its weird and random nature.

Q: "Will you release the song?"

A: Yes! I'm releasing the main music featured in the demo + the trailer song once the demo releases on Friday! (technically most of the music is already fully composed, but I don't want to spoil anything)

Q: "Why is the game named "Y O U"?"

A: The game is about the fox-like creature who is named "You"! However, the game is also about you the player. I felt like "Y O U" was the perfect name for the game, because it's right to the point, it's about the both of you!

Q: "Steam release?"

A: At a later point in time there will be ^^. I haven't fully setup a steam developer account yet, so I'm waiting to finish that up before I publish to steam! There is also a fee to upload games, so I'm saving up a bit.
