Whereas our meta-analysis (doi.org/10.3917/anps...) indicates a significant but small association between #StatisticalLearning and #Language, the latest work by @haoyuzhou.bsky.social using 23 tasks and latent variable methods (a fishing net rather than rod!) reveals a stronger interconnection.

Had a wonderful time presenting some fresh results from my factor analysis study on SL and language at #PsycholinguisticsInFlanders in Pavia! As a teaser for my upcoming talk on the same subject at #IASL26, here is a nice visual made by Louisa @bogaertslab.bsky.social Stay tuned!

Really happy to have presented a poster on my work “Reliable measures of orthographic statistical learning predict spelling but not reading skill” at #AMLAP2025. Other honorable mentions go to this gorgeous painting at the national gallery and the beautiful weather throughout 🌅🕶️☔️

I think this is a very powerful example of how 'the language network' comes about (or doesn't). See our paper on why we think 'the language network' is widely distributed in the brain: pure.mpg.de/rest/items/i... (same pic of simulation posted below w/ white background for those who use dark mode)

@boevesam.bsky.social & Haoyu Zhou's paper is out! The title says it all: 'A meta analysis of 97 studies reveals that statistical learning and language ability are only weakly correlated'. For those who like exact numbers, r = 0.16. 📑 osf.io/preprints/ps...
