Second reiteration: we are still in a very Bad Time in the US animation industry. Folks w/ years of experience are struggling to find work. Shit is rigged and it benefits no worker. If you’re trying to break in- I’m sorry. I wish I had a secret password, but if there is one, it’s lost to me now too

The second I hear the word “lazy” come out of someone critiquing an animated work I immediately know they have little-to-no knowledge of the actual pipeline, not to mention how wildly disrespectful it is to the hardworking folks put under increasing unrealistic expectations for little pay!

CHARACTER LAYOUTS. One of the important jobs , along with animation timers, that got absorbed into the storyboard artist role over the last decade, leading to tons of burnout and scope creep. look at the clarity of storytelling you can get when you bring back lost roles!

you may have noticed that animation has never been more in-demand & in the zeitgeist and yet, seemingly, never have media conglomerates been less willing to produce it. you may also notice these guys get multimillion dollar severance packages after they gut a studio. there is probably no connection

It was SO bad. I dressed to the nines, printed nice new resumes, only to be told by the multiple studio booths that they weren’t hiring, wouldn’t even take my resume, & told me to scan a QR code to fill out an interest form. I felt so utterly defeated. At least they were offering free headshot pics?

Absolutely. I’m having flashbacks to that terrible Burbank Media and Arts job fair last year, where *no one* was hiring, and it was packed to the gills. The saving grace was that it was at least free to attend, so the only thing wasted was time

The fact someone can commit sexual assault and be punished in a discrete manner so as not to “ruin their life” and then years later become a popular entity in media, causing even more trauma when the assault is revealed? If the initial punishment didn’t favor the assaulter, this’d be less common.
