"Secret bidder" in Danish CCS tender confirmed 🤫💨🏭🇩🇰 Denmark currently runs a tender process for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) projects. In the latest round, 9 out of 10 preselected projects had announced their withdrawal from the process, with only the cement plant🪨🏭 Aalborg Portland left.🔌💡 🧵

A Climate Success Story🎉 without a Happy End🙁? This chart📉 shows something we would like to see more often: emissions are going down rapidly. Those are emissions of N₂O from the production of a chemical🧪—Caprolactam—used to make certain plastics&synthetic fibers. 🔌💡 🧵
Chart showing N2O emissions from Caprolactam in the EU, significant decline.

The two curves here should be the same. Obviously, they are not. If you are at #39c3 and want to learn about the unusual things I found in Greenhouse Gas Emission Databases, come to stage One at 11h fahrplan.events.ccc.de/congress/202... There's a livestream: streaming.media.ccc.de/39c3/one

Another one of my readers, Erik Butter, contacted Stiftung Warentest. They went to their archives and shared a scan of the article.

This widely shared graphic uses a trick to make its message appear stronger than it is. It seems to show a strong correlation between energy consumption + wealth of a country. By using a logscale, the correlation appears much stronger than it is. I made a video ⚡💸🎥 www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xZ6...

Was preparing a talk about industrial emissions & like to illustrate with local examples. Place is is close to a chemical cluster in German state Saxony-Anhalt. Pic (CC by-sa FotoFitti) left is a coalplant, largest emission source in S.Anhalt. I want to talk about the 🏭 on the right. 🔌💡 🧵

Proposal by @nworbmot.bsky.social to use Methanol as a long-duration electricity storage. I was skeptical at first, but the idea is to combine it with a bunch of other technologies and concept, notably cycling the CO2, and using an oxyfuel tech. Very interesting and promising.

Is it just me that I find it slightly concerning that Climeworks already sells offsets for a plant that is not operational yet? Article worth reading, balanced, but highlights plenty of concerning issues with Climeworks. heatmap.news/economy/clim...
Despite being a first-of-its-kind demonstration plant — and an active research site — Orca is also a commercial project. In fact, Gosalvez told me that Orca’s entire estimated capacity for carbon removal, over the 12 years that the plant is expected to run, sold out shortly after it began operating. The company is now selling carbon removal services from its yet-to-be-built Mammoth plant.
