In no time, you will have more impact, people around you will see you as a team player, and management wil recognize that you are contributing to the success of the company.

Instead, understand the organization around you, learn how it makes money, and what your role is. Use that insight to do the following: - Take actions that contribute to the bigger whole - Communicate your suggestions on how to improve things - Make your own decisions based on the greater mission.

I keep seeing developers make the same mistakes over and over again. When you want to level up your impact, and thus your pay, only focusing on your tech skills doesn't get you there. Everyone who only focuses only on the tech, plateaus pretty early into their career.

Are you placing the order? It’ll be an annoying amount of work to seal it all, and to make sure none of the circuitry shorts. But definitely feasible. But unless someone pays me to do it, I’m not sure the joke is worth the effort.

The first years are often spent on 'orientation': figuring out what they like, what roles are out there, etc. Being a soundboard to them to help them find direction is the best thing you can do. Also, be available for questions. Often it's not tech, but how to approach their team lead, HR, etc.

LinkedIn is losing it. They are using AI-generated fake profiles to push ads, disguised as direct messages into the inboxes of everyone... including paying customers like myself who already pay ~$600/year for LinkedIn Premium. What a low. (This is real, from my "inbox")

I’m on a mix of Apple and Windows devices, 1Password works well across. To be fair, last time I evaluated the field is a few years ago. I like the idea of not being the product when it comes to passwords. No free tier. You want it? You pay the devs. Fair. Family account is reasonably priced too.

6. Cobra the Impaler - Karma Collision open.spotify.com/album/0IJd8e... Another Belgian band, and they flew under my radar for some reason until 2024. This album is a very solid prog album, with early Mastodon (best Mastodon) vibes. Great band I’m hoping to catch live soon.

It’s december and everyone is starting to post their year in review, or is setting goals for the next year. Since 2024 has been thoroughly crap, and I’m gonna take 2025 slower, I don’t feel like doing either. So… let’s talk about music. Tell me about 6 albums from the past year.

Tell me about an album in 2024 that:
1. Exceeded your expectations
2. Was exactly as predicted
3. Disappointed you
4. You could not stop listening to
5. You kept recommending to others
6. From a band you did not know
