At full strength, US women should beat everyone except the Czechs would be a 50/50 matchup. Men are very deep but would still have a tough time against a full strength Italy, Spain, and Germany.

Hanlon Walsh @hanlonwalsh.bsky.social · 25/09/2026

I wish both US teams would commit 1 year at giving it a proper go to win both BJK & Davis Cup. Could you imagine these teams? 🇺🇸 Gauff, Pegula, Anisimova, Jovic, Townsend (or Keys, Navarro) 🇺🇸 Shelton, Fritz, Foe, Tien, Paul, and/or Harrison/Krajicek

There are 6 American men in the ATP top 20 and 7 American women in the WTA top 30. Yet neither team qualified for the final 8 in Davis Cup or BJK Cup later this year. Baffling.

USA’s team competition woes continue 🤦🏻‍♂️

Before Rybakina and Zverev made the singles headlines, Katerina Siniakova broke a new doubles record and quietly cemented herself as one of the WTA all-time doubles greats. New story on her unprecedented career slam milestone.

Can’t help but wonder what Taylor Fritz is thinking right now seeing this matchup.

Hanlon Walsh @hanlonwalsh.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

Can’t remember the last men’s slam final where I was so heavily invested in one player winning it.

Hanlon Walsh @hanlonwalsh.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

It’s wild to think she could be in Justine/Venus or even Seles slam territory had she won most/all the finals she’s been so close in. Especially seeing her slam finals record compared to her top rivals.

Glad for Rybakina that she gets a signature slam-winning moment like this to go along with her new No. 1 ranking.

090 9

Not one, but *two* fist pumps for the Rybakina match point celebration 👊🏻👊🏻

Christian Harrison’s rise up the ATP doubles rankings has been fascinating to watch. In Feb. 2025, he and Evan King qualified for the Dallas Open and won their first ATP doubles title together. 18+ months later, he’s a 2x slam champion and top 5 doubles player. #USOpen

Katerina Siniakova Enters Uncharted Doubles Territory

I wrote about Katerina Siniakova’s rise up the WTA history books, and how she and Townsend are putting together the most dominant WTA doubles season we’ve seen in a decade.

The last team I remember winning at this sustained level (on tour and slams) was Hingis & Mirza in 2015-2016.

Townsend & Siniakova are on track to have the most dominant WTA doubles season in the last decade. They're currently 37-4 (90%) in 2026 with 5 titles together (2 slams and 3 Masters 1000s). Both have also won titles with other partners.

Kinda crazy that Zverev has a 5-0 H2H vs. Shelton. Will Sunday be different? Feels like a different version of Shelton who has been way more battle tested than Zverev the last two weeks given their respective draws. I think Ben will rise to the occasion. #USOpen

Very curious what this post-match handshake will look like between Tiafoe and Shelton… I don’t think they’re actually fiends?

Less McEnroe and more Roddick and Eubanks please.

0121 12

Siniakova now has 12 women’s doubles majors to her resume, just one shy of Martina Hingis (13) and two shy of the Williams sisters (14).

Career doubles slam unlocked 🔥 🏆 Siniakova becomes 1st WTA player in Open Era history to win the career doubles slam * twice* with 2 different partners. 🏆 Townsend & Siniakova win 4th major in 3 years and complete the career slam sweep as a pair. #USOpen 🐐🐐

Last night’s women’s SFs reminded of the 2004 #USOpen The stage was set for an all-American final with Davenport & Capriati as the favorites, but the Dementieva & Kuznetsova beat them 7-6 in the 3rd. This time, the Americans were the underdogs and outplayed by No. 1 Sabalenka & No. 2 Rybakina.

Hanlon Walsh @hanlonwalsh.bsky.social · 10/09/2026

One of my favorite doubles moments to witness and stories to write was watching Rajeev Ram finally get his due in Davis Cup last year. He and Austin Krajicek won an epic 3-set battle against the Czechs in front of a packed home crowd in Delray Beach 🇺🇸 Cheers to a great career, Raj! 👊🏻

Do we think Tiafoe and Shelton will be the Friday afternoon SF match since they played first? Or the night session match since it’s the marquee all-American lineup?

Hanlon Walsh @hanlonwalsh.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

Learner Tien might be my new favorite American player to watch. So much variety. So unbothered on court. So refreshing from generations of American serve-bots and big forehands. Yes please.

Is Karen Khachanov the Elise Mertens equivalent of the ATP (minus doubles success)? If not, then who is his WTA counterpart?

The new crew of USO on-court cast members this year has been interesting 🤔

Hsieh’s career slam quest lives on 💥 No. 4 Hsieh Su-Wei & Jelena Ostapenko knock out No. 14 Chan/Joint 6-4, 6-4. And here’s Angel Chan quickly dodging a handshake with Hsieh. I know there’s a backstory here, but don’t know the details. Anyone? #USOpen

The residual effect of Taylor Fritz (and Cobolli) crashing out in the third round…

000 0

Here’s the Labor Day dubs match to circle: Taylor, Kat, & Storm have all won many titles. I talked to Taylor/Storm in ATX this year and they joked about having a dubs “partnership triangle” between the 3 of them. Des Krawczyk has become more of a household name as co-host of the Players Box Pod 🎙️

Did I just see Svetlana Kuznetsova sitting in Kalinskaya’s USO player box?

140 4

Best win of Tiafoe’s career?!

090 9

I’m afraid the days of Carlos vs. Tommy once being a competitive rivalry may be long gone…

Highly recommend the trio of Mary Carillo, Jim Courier, and Rob Koenig calling this Paul-Alcaraz match on USTA World Feed over the alternative option on ESPN.

The Buckeyes have done it again 🔥 Ohio State’s Brandon Carpico & Nikita Filin upset veterans Marcelo Melo/John Peers to advance to the R16. This comes after beating the most in-form ATP team of Orlando Luz/Rafael Matos in the opening round. #USOpen

Three of the best WTA doubles players are going for the career slam in New York. And Siniakova has a chance to become the first women’s player in Open Era history to do it with two different partners. #USOpen

Pleasantly surprised by Zheng making it to 3R! And we’ll see how today’s lineup of IS stars go 🤞🏻 yesterday was a wild ride

Saturday state of American tennis 🇺🇸 🤔 worried about Keys 😢 sad for Fritz 😎 in awe of Coco 🤩 impressed by Jovic 😮 surprised by Zheng 🤔 curious about Amanda 🙏 hopeful for Learner

The future of the WTA is going to be just alright. Hell of a match by Jovic and Eala. #USOpen

0151 15

Hardest loss of Fritz’s career? I would think so given the opportunity.

I’m afraid that Taylor Fritz just missed his best chance to win a slam 🙈

0171 17

Feels like this should be required for all wildcard entrants? Or is it in doubles too and they’re just taking the fine?

Prediction: The next doubles match that Serena and Venus play will be against Maya Joint and Erin Routliffe… Serena’s two most unlikely rivals in 2026.

090 9

That was fun, messy, entertaining, erratic, and devastating all at the same time. #WatchMoreDoubles 👊🏻

This match has been equally messy and entertaining AF. #USOpen
