Favorite moment of this past week was checking a football field with artificial grass for vegetation… but when you’d think all was said and done, behold!

The great advantage of having QGIS take care of creating randomly distributed sites for fieldwork. don’t think I could have picked a better spot myself to investigate the crossover from human made construction and nature! #Ecobudgets @uibcet.bsky.social @btwnthefjords-uib.bsky.social

In the perfect cross section between anthropogenic constructions and nature, we mapped the vegetation. One of the more unique compositions of species so far in #Ecobudgets.

Adding 'cycling to fieldwork' and 'scrambling to fieldsites' to the list of field experience with this Bergen based biodiversity mapping effort! Pictures by @vvandvik.bsky.social,with @hanifkawousi.bsky.social @btwnthefjords-uib.bsky.social @uibcet.bsky.social

New project! @btwnthefjords-uib.bsky.social to map biodiversity and ecosystems in #Bergen. Very first randomly located plot in Hanif Kawousi’s #PhD is in Nygårdsparken! @uibcet.bsky.social @cesam-uib.bsky.social @unibergen.bsky.social #EcoBudgets #DarkDiv #ProudSupervisor #ProfLife #PhDLife 🍃🏔️🌐🌍🪏📏🧪

#Fieldworkselfie - four scientists and a vegetation plot, demarcated by a mental frame. This plot is part of a random sample of 200 sick plots in Bergen Municipality. And this particular one ended up on a roadside in Nygårdsparken!

First day of field work! PhD student Hanif Kawousi starting his field work by sampliing a vegetation plot in an urban park. In this picture he is standing, smiling, with a tablet and weseing a yellow rainjacket and a blue hat. In the background, a water fountain… that’s urban ecology for you!

PhD student Hanif Kawousi and lab manager Dagmar Egelkraut eagerly messuring traits of plants …. sitting on a lawn in a park roadside curb,…

PhD student Hanif Kawousi talking to a passer-by on a paved park path. When doing urban ecology, remember to factir in some time talking to strangers :-) …for this plot alone, we had 8 people ask questions… #outreach

Lovely to be in beautiful Bergen for the kickoff of the ECOBUDGETS project about sustainability budgeting related to municipal work on climate and land use planning. Useful reflections shared to inform my role as an advisor on this @uibcet.bsky.social collaboration with a range of societal partners.
