It almost certainly would help, maybe very little, but it wouldn't be a net negative.

He shouldn't have to ask. As a prominent Maine politician, she should understand the assignment and endorse him. She doesnt need to campaign for him if that is too much for her (she couldn't even campaign for herself after all)

Dems should be ignoring these questions or saying they will consider all his nominees like he is here If they lock arms saying they will block everything like the bluesky hysterics want, Alito would retire tomorrow. Ideally we want him to feel comfortable with NOT retiring before the new congress.

He is negging them is the correct answer. This is supposed to be a compliment, like this Senator is working so hard for you that he calls to annoy me.

To put this in perspective, that "data center uses as much water as 16,000 people" story says that is 805,000 gallons a day. Which sounds like a lot, but that is only 902 acre-feet of water per year. Versus the MILLIONS of acre-feet of water alfalfa uses a year.

From a human suffering perspective, its one of the most horrific things the US has ever done. You dont care. Sadly, most Americans dont care either, I dont want Dems to run on it, because they would lose votes. They need to quietly fix it after Trump is out of office. It's the Trans issue x1000.

I honestly find you disgusting. So many leftists in this country dont give a fuck about the larger issues our country and the world face from an empowered Trump. Literally millions of people are dying because of USAID cuts, you dont care because black people in Africa aren't real to you.

The more I think the more her explanation of transplant as a derogatory word doesnt even make sense. The other uses of the word: 1) repotting a plant 2) giving someone a new organ For a plant, it IS usually harrowing, FOR THE PLANT And in the medical field, the transplant is saving the body

Isn't that section of the graph primarily showing wage growth outpacing inflation? Inflation is more than wage growth briefly at the peak around 2022, and then very recently in 2026, but there are several years in the middle where that isnt true. Yet sentiment doesnt move to reflect those changes

This whole debate is fascinating because on one level I dont believe AI are conscious or "thinking" the way living creatures do. I have no moral qualms about switching off AI that I have for killing. But then I abstract it to any sci fi movie, am I just the bigot who doesnt believe in robot rights?

hancockb.bsky.social @hancockb.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
The "thinking" of ai is demystefied because we can look behind the curtain and see exactly how it works. Who is to say if we could crack open a squirrel's brain and unspool its thoughts into code we wouldn't see similar processes that dont resemble our idea of true "thought"? Same with human thought
110
hancockb.bsky.social @hancockb.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
Don't we use "thinking" for lots of non humans tho? People regularly describe dogs, cats, or even insects, as "thinking." Is the "thinking" of an llm the same as that of an animal? Idk. I dont think so, but that's the point of a large body of philosophy, we can only truly know our own inner self.

This isnt fucking CA or Maine or even Minnesota or Georgia. If you run the Dem party line on every social issue in the Ohio Gov race, you will lose. That's just facts. Let her run as she needs to, MAGA were fine with Trump lying about being more left to win twice, can you be as smart as them?

hancockb.bsky.social @hancockb.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
Trump won Ohio by 12 points. Even in an extremely generous D +8 environment, Acton still needs to make up an ADDITIONAL 4 points. That 8 points already accounts for D enthusiasm/R unenthusiasm. Which mean convincing trump voters/leaners who otherwise plan to vote to flip or stay home.

hancockb.bsky.social @hancockb.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
People need to understand that to win in these places will require trump voters flipping or staying home. 2024 put to bed the idea that nonvoters are just unactivated leftists/Dems. Nonvoters are on average to the RIGHT of voters.

hancockb.bsky.social @hancockb.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
People like this are refusing to live in the real world. We are talking about Ohio/Texas. These are like double digit trump states, not CA. If you say you are not going to vote for the Dem, that makes a permission structure to 1) ignore your constituency in the future and 2) get blamed for a loss

I’m not entirely sure how to communicate this to you all, but like, the vast majority of the country is to your right. On probably most issues, and definitely on most social issues. The only ways of dealing with that outside blue areas are: 1. Moderating. 2. Pretending to moderate. 3. Losing.

You're clearly not living in anything resembling reality. If they're dead? Wtf are you talking about? Ironically there are countries like Saudia Arabia where you can be executed for being trans. Trump has cozied up to those places!

hancockb.bsky.social @hancockb.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
Because there are overlapping demographics. A Trans person might also be a black person. Worse under the GOP. A Trans person might care about the climate, or the economy, or the war in fucking Iran, all worse under the GOP! The suffering the GOP cause is truly staggering, ignoring that is evil.

Its a big ass country and there of course were a wide variety of reactions. As you note, Bush giving that speech was a clear attempt to tamp down on Islamaphobia. Try and imagine Trump's reaction to a 9/11 today, it would legit result in mass internment and deportation of all Muslims at minimum.

One of many things that annoys me about their takes is how performative they are, they have no thought of how their non vote will build/shrink power for their movement. If he wins despite their nonvote it teaches politicians u are small and can be ignored. If he loses, we are legit fucked by the GOP

I agree generally that things weren't perfect after 9/11, but the thing that bugs me far more is what many people tend to do: imagining the Bush era as far worse as some sort of "Trump isnt that different" cope. There were zero non white refugees to the US last year ffs. Its worse here now people.

Like can you imagine the hysteria that would take place if the right behaved like the left? Proclamations from 2nd Amendment groups that Trump can't be trusted cause he entertained gun policy one time, the wails about fiscal irresponsibility over his health care "promises"
040
hancockb.bsky.social @hancockb.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
One of my biggest frustrations with the left is their refusal to permit subtext, their total bafflement at the idea of a wink and a nod. Trump lies literally all the time about being more reasonable/left, knives NEVER come out for him. Let's Dems lie to the GOP curious rubes, you fucking idiots!

Who cares what her positions are? She is polling over 20 points behind the Republican in one of the reddest states. The fact she didnt drop out tells you all you need to know about her, she is 1) vain 2) delusional and 3) unwilling to put the betterment of Montanans above that vanity and delusion.

Unrelated, but I feel like Suicide Squad would be a pretty great IP for an xcom style game. Its a natural fit for the typical permadeath mechanic. You could potentially "recruit" targets of certain missions. How well you manage the team makes them more/less likely to try and rebel/escape.

This is something that annoys me about 2024 discourse. People smugly say Harris "shouldn't have supported genocide" when the reality of Oct/Nov 2024 is that support for Israel was far higher then. It was a reasonable conclusion that anti Israel positions would have lost more support than it gained.

Noah is annoying af. Sadly I find some of his writing to be interesting, less lately I have felt for a while that his "hot takes" are him trying to be like Yglesias, but he is worse at it and comes across likevan edge lord prick. Some would argue Yglesias does too, but I feel Noah is far worse lol.

People cite to cutting student loans as a good policy, my hot take is that it is indicative of why Dems are bleeding working class voters. Id personally benefit from loan forgiveness, but its just true that it is a tax cut for those w/ a higher income funded by those w/ a lower income

Yall this is cope. They were both projected to win by huge double digit margins. It is an accurate framing of THIS story to say these were disappointing results. Its not to say the media doesnt have an anti left bias, it does. But also, these results were pretty f-ing tepid.

N Korea literally is sending tens of thousands of troops at this exact moment to help in killing Ukrainians. Seems bad, IDK. N Korea isnt Cuba where the US is unilaterally dominating a tiny neighbor. Shocking S Korea and Japan dont want normalize relations w/ a country threatening to bomb them

You're trolling right? The article you're citing is not talking about that picture, "She now carries a large scar on the right side of her face, something her husband even jokes about" Point out that scar to me in the photo we're discussing.

Dude you sound deranged. Saying Lovett is a part of the dirt bag left is detached from reality. I thought people disliked the pod save bros for being Obama establishment hacks? That they're always walking the party line?

Hating the pod save bros is like the epitome of the "dont want power, just want to critique power" meme. They are basically the median Democrat. If you think they're trash, like 75% of the country is to their right! Hard to win elections if you are pushing away a supermajority worth of voters.

hancockb.bsky.social @hancockb.bsky.social · 07/07/2026

I dont understand what the logic would be here. Democrats would almost certainly lose the special election. And its not like keeping the seat vacant, or somehow a Democrat winning, would impact the majority at all. If its a conspiracy, its by McConnell staffers who dont want to lose their jobs yet

hancockb.bsky.social @hancockb.bsky.social · 29/06/2026
Saying no one "serious" believes it is a ridiculous way to try and dismiss the argument. Look around! Being "serious" has little, to no, correlation with control over levers of power. I care about power, not "seriousness". MAGA are all clowns, doesnt mean they can't ruin this country, for example.
