Joe Tache running for your seat said we should abolish 🧊
[Tweet from Joe Tache, @Tache4MA. With a protest pic in the background]

ICE has killed another one of our neighbors.

Emmanuel Clifford Damas, a Haitian community member and asylum-seeker in Boston, was kidnapped by ICE in September.

The conditions in the detention center were so horrific that Emmanuel's tooth became infected and he was refused treatment until he developed sepsis. He passed away on Monday. Our brother is dead because ICE denied him a simple course of antibiotics.

Emmanuel was a victim of the racist attacks on the Haitian community being waged by the Trump Administration. He was a victim of a capitalist system that seeks to divide and terrorize us in order to exploit us.

Justice for Emmanuel. Abolish ICE.
Amnesty for all immigrants.

I really don’t think the National Guard retreat is due to successful pushback, but rather the fact that the executive branch now has a fully funded military w/o congressional oversight. Hope I’m wrong 🤞🏽
Bar chart showing Ice funding since 2000. Ice funding hovered around 5 billion in the start of George W. Bush’s term, staying steady during Obama’s term, increasing during Trump and Biden’s term but staying around $10 billion.

There is a large data point on the far right for 2026 showing $37 billion in funding

Had a feeling something was missing when I read this snippet from the WSJ
2. Legendary French actress and sex symbol Brigitte Bardot has died.

Known for her pouty lips, heavy eyeliner and long blonde hair piled on her head, Bardot propelled a global myth about French beauty and sexuality that endures to this day. Her outspoken and free-spirited style made her an icon during the post-World War Il era when France remained deeply conservative.
After retiring from the movies in her late 30s, she spent decades living away. from the spotlight, surrounded by animals, whose cause she championed.

A self-inflicted wound for Nepal's
Left

Following Nepal's four-year IMF Extended Credit Facility (ECF) program, the government faced pressure to boost domestic revenue. This led to a new Digital Services Tax and stricter VAT rules for foreign e-service providers, but when major platforms refused to register, the state escalated by blocking them. This move, which began as a tax enforcement effort, quickly became a tool of digital control, and it occurred as the public was already dealing with rising fuel costs and economic hardships driven by the program's push for fiscal consolidation. The government's platform ban became the final trigger for widespread protests against corruption, joblessness, and a lack of opportunities, highlighting that the unrest was less about a
"color revolution" and more about material grievances fueled by austerity measures.

Having a non political-economic understanding of the world leads to comments like this, a belief that industrialists are actually trying to make a point. They’re not. They’re just trying to insert themselves into the conversation against bc renewables threaten profits. There’s nothing else to it

Scientist exposes anti-wind groups as oil-funded. Now they want to silence him

I read the article but it's still unclear what argument the anti-wind groups use to say _why_
"wind is bad for environment/our children/the economy/greater good"?

A triangle from the right side of the flag touches the left edge with its vertex. The triangle is blue, and there is an inner triangle that is white inside. The white triangle is a carp that is emerging from the water, looking downwards the area in between the blue triangle and the rest of the flag is yellow.

I think they cooked here lowkey
The left portion of a flag has a triangle that is blue poking out from the edge with a yellow star in the middle of the triangle is formed by four blue stripes going from the bottom left to the top right and from the top left to the bottom right while still keeping a little bit of white on the very right side of the flag to create another similar triangle that has nothing in it

This is art
Red white and blue tricolor flag. With navy blue stripes on the red portion, baby blue stripes on the white portion and red stripes on the blue portion, extending from the top of the flag towards the top third stopping until it hits an image and then continuing from the bottom, third downwards to the end. The images in each of the thirds contain a famous person from the left is Benjamin Franklin in the middle is John Brown on the end is Frederick Douglas.

Love the Iroquois flag reference here
The top third of the flag has a blue-yellow-blue stripe. The middle third has a white background with a blue shield that contains a pine tree with a star. The bottom third of the flag has a blue background with a line going through with four squares connected in the middle with a pine tree, which seems to be indicative of the Iroquois flag.

Rouge background with a hollow rhombus in the middle. Lines from the vertices connect them to the edge of the flag. In each quadrant there seems to be a closed triskelion with a four clover flower in the middle of the rhombus

Sucker for a Maryland style flag when done right
Flag is split into for quadrants. I am starting from the top right quadrant going counterclockwise. Quadrant 2 & 4 are identical: blue background with 3 diagonal stars, the middle being gold, rest being white. Quadrant 1 & 3 have vertical green & white stripes, and a diagonal line about an eighth the size of the stripe goes through the stripes that turns the green to gold & white to blue

Love the blue here, feels different.
Left third of the flag is white, while the right two thirds is navy blue. A pine tree straddles in between the middle, where the colors are inverted for the tree.

Thread of ones that caught my eye: Starting with my favorite. I love how simple yet distinct it is. I haven’t seen a flag that looks like this, and it could be used to immediately identify the state. It would be a great sticker, you could see it draped over items, etc

Something something, it’s always about labor
Despite the Trust Act, Boston police have a record of working with ICE agents in ways advocates say undermine the Trust Act. In 2019 the ACLU of Massachusetts requested records of communications between BPD and ICE after a Boston police sergeant called the agency on an undocumented construction worker who filed a workers compensation claim against his employer.

The @bikeboston.bsky.social statement on the e-bike crash was incredibly well done. I don’t normally see biking advocates talk about class & race, so to see the emphasis within our local context was incredible. Very much appreciated 🫶🏽🚲
Delivery drivers, many of whom are immigrants and working-class residents, are under immense pressure to deliver faster and work longer hours for low pay.
Demonizing them for trying to do their jobs under strict time constraints is not only unjust, it's also a distraction from the urgent conversation we need to be having: how do we build streets that prioritize human life over speed?

AND WHAT IS POSTMODERNISM JAMES??? COULD IT BE THE CULTURAL LOGIC OF LATE-STAGE CAPITALISM??? WHAT THE FUCK
There, James introduced the idea of "Secu Tech," or "secular technology" designed from a secular perspective. His primary example is social media, which, he told me over the phone, engenders "the postmodernist values of fighting over identity and representation.
Everyone on social media is going through an identity crisis and some kind of disinformation campaign. That's not a bug. That's a feature of postmodern design."

The event is called Code & Cosmos, and its underlying thesis is that the fields of science and technology, once considered diametrically opposed to religion and spirituality, might converge with the teachings of the Bible. In other words, business networking for the spiritually curious.

Started this shit off with a banger 😭🤣🔥🔥
The good and the bad are part of reality and I take both as part of the dialectics of life. Hence, I dedicate this third edition of Racism without Racists to those mainstream sociologists who have tried to hurt my career over the years as well as to the few sociologists of color who have joined them hoping to advance their own careers. Without all of you, I would have not worked as hard as I have; without you, I would not have proof my work is doing what is supposed to do: irritating the powerful who hate to see their real reflection in the sociological mirror. Accordingly, your poison has been useful to me much like the venom of the snakes which, when given in small dosages, is a wonderful medicine.
I also dedicate this edition to the "usual suspects" who have loved and supported me over the years: my graduate students; my son Omar, who just got his BA in sociology at Wisconsin; my parents and family in Puerto Rico who still treat me as the young skinny kid who left in 1984; and my Mary-"the good Mary, as folks at Texas A&M call my sweet yet strong wife (she is the only person who can keep me in check). The support you have all given me has been the necessary balm to balance the hate I get from the enemies of humanity. Thanks to all of you and know that I have your back, too.
