lastly. gesture drawings are an amazing way to loosen up. i would suggest trying out gesture drawing as a warmup every time before you work on bigger art. good luck! 6/6

personality of a character. for ex. if a character dresses formally, fixes their hair, and wears a lot of jewelry? you can assume they probably have a lot of power and they love the rich life. probably a bit egotistical or vain. things like this. 5/6

halfscorpion @halfscorpion.bsky.social · 16/07/2026

with character design, there's a lot of factors to consider. but personally, reflecting the personalities of the characters is my favorite way to go about it. even if you go for a more "realistic style" where outfits are a lot more simplified, just the smallest details can tell a bit of the 4/6

halfscorpion @halfscorpion.bsky.social · 16/07/2026

"How can I do this better to make it look the way i want to?" you don't *have* to completely learn how to draw realistically btw, but it helps a lot to at least understand the fundamentals. i think Jazza on YT has a few good tutorials on anatomy. they're old vids but they might help a lot. 3/6

halfscorpion @halfscorpion.bsky.social · 16/07/2026

looking at real life refs and then tracing shapes over the models to see how i can maybe simplify them. and then with the same references, i try copying them instead of tracing. you might hate it even more, but this is when you can start asking yourself, 2/6

130

halfscorpion @halfscorpion.bsky.social · 16/07/2026

with anatomy, it's a bit complicated. but i will say, you have to be willing to look at it realistically before you break it down into your own shapes. you also have to be willing to step outside of your comfort zone and try new techniques. personally what helped me most was 1/6

Locke is doing everything he can to pick up the mess he left in his younger days. He is often painted as rude and hostile, but those who know him would describe him as chill, generous, and a caring friend who’s willing to protect them at all costs. #ocs ARTFIGHT: artfight.net/character/99...

sooo true, and the creator herself did!

120

halfscorpion @halfscorpion.bsky.social · 27/06/2026

they've also said J/ax was a "terrible representation for trans people" all because she wasn't some perfect angel like they hoped? as if all trans characters should be one dimensional nice guys? shit's so stupid 😭💀 2/2

120

halfscorpion @halfscorpion.bsky.social · 27/06/2026

it IS! if i remember, you don't mind spoilers, but J/ax was confirmed to be trans, and like half of the fandom suddenly became transphobic, said it was "forced" when literally ALL the signs were there. and they would "back up" their claim by using their own transness which was just so gross. 1/2

120

halfscorpion @halfscorpion.bsky.social · 27/06/2026

it's like that whole thing all over again where ppl say "we need more complex female characters!" but then can't even handle Pink Di/amond and now J/AX and this is coming from someone who was REALLY CRITICAL about TA/DC, like yeah i thought it was a rushed mess but at least i UNDERSTOOD EVERYTHING

120

halfscorpion @halfscorpion.bsky.social · 27/06/2026

i feel fucking cursed with knowledge for feeling like the only one who understood J/ax as a character, jfc, seeing both the fandom and haters complain excessively about her because she "wasn't nice" or that they personally didn't see the signs genuinely pissed me off. I'm blocking the whole tag now.

Dallas Lupito wanted to become an investigator in order to get closer to the world's most dangerous place: the Anarchy Underground. But to do so, he had to join the police force and break their code: "Never involve yourself in Scorpion's business." #characterref #originalcharacter #oc #ocs

It was just supposed to be some random rough sketches of the Belvideres in Bloodlust with a funny caption but then I stopped and was like. Wait. That kind of looks like an album cover. So I slapped together random things to make it more album cover-y. 😝 Original sketches linked in ALT text.

Black and red sketch of four silhouettes (brothers), staring at the viewer with manic expressions and drool running down their mouths as if they're about to fucking get you (because they will. they're vampires and they're hungry). The text in front of them says, "Bloodlust is one hell of a drug" with a skull doodle at the end. It's meant to be a silly caption but it's also true for them.
