Project Hail Mary is a good movie. I'm really not much of a movie guy but it's probably my favourite in a long time, though I'll have to watch it again to be sure. Quite an achievement to make a rock spider so endearing, the humour is of a type that often doesn't work for me but it does here. 5*

Finally found some time to hit credits on Final Fantasy XVI. I do see where certain aspects of the criticism come from but I quite enjoyed it on the whole. Don't think I've played a more spectacular game, the characters are well realized, and I enjoyed the combat throughout. Very solid FF entry imo.

I was in charge of bringing Christmas dinner dessert this year so tried my hand at a first Bûche de Noël (yule log). A bit clumsy, as is my tradition, but I was fairly happy with the result. Taste and texture were both quite good. #baking #holidaybaking #bakersofbsky

Photo of my yule log on a serving platter that was maybe slightly too small. It's covered in chocolate ganache with squiggly grooves created by a fork in it to mimic bark texture and decorated with sugared cranberries and rosemary sprigs. I covered the ends in ganache too rather than leaving the spiral exposed because it was a bit messy.

Not the most reflective of my gaming year as a whole, most of my play was non-steam before the last couple of months. I was so close to completing FFXVI too but then met a woman and yeah... I'll get back to it over the holidays😄

Summary of my Steam Replay 2025.

I played 35 games, 17 of them new, and earned 80 achievements over 155 play sessions. My top 5 most played were Final Fantasy XVI, Final Fantasy XIV, Enshrouded, Peak, and Kingdom Come Deliverance II.

I hate watching MLS because the refereeing is a disgrace. That was not even a foul by Blackmon and he gets a second yellow! He got the ball and barely touched the guy! Where is the VAR check on that?? And of course Son converts the resulting free kick. Unwatchable.

A little late but Happy Halloween from everyone's second favourite Burmecian, Sir Fratley! The mask didn't come together but I was relatively happy with how the spear and clothes turned out. Haven't sewed in possibly actual decades so it was great to up that skill a bit. #FFIX #halloween #cosplay

Me posing in my homemade Sir Fratley Halloween costume. Took the better part of three days of crafting after a trip to the thrift store for a few pieces to sew together for the top, ears, and tail. The spear is made out of a 1 and 1/8 inch dowel and a 1 by 4.

Joined the bsky ink making club this weekend, inspired and informed by @lorenschmidt.bsky.social. Haven't used it yet, but these weren't black walnuts so it's probably fairly light, we'll see. Time to make a quill pen! (and eventually get a dip pen, not sure I should use this in a cartridge)

A simple, relatively bland graphite pencil sketch of three salmon hanging over a slightly crooked horizontal stick. The fish have been beheaded, filleted and scored across the flesh but the skin and tail were left on to connect the two halves which are draped over the stick, leaving the tail sticking up vertically. This exposes the flesh to the sun and allows for ventilation while the scoring helps to accelerate the drying process.

Love to spend a couple of hours of my Sunday grappling with GPU drivers after an update causes repeated crashing and instability and then the Nvidia app crashes mid rollback... Second time this year, if I remember correctly. And now the manual install seems to be stuck too... Very cool🙃

A small ink and alcohol marker sketch of a Tope Shark. It's a side-on view. The lines aren't too bad but the colouring which is shades of grey is inexpertly applied, to say the least. Probably didn't help that I'm using a cheap sketchbook which isn't intended for this sort of thing, but I wanted to try to markers. Lessons learned... maybe?

Finally got around to starting Wolf Hall season 2. Everyone in the series is such a bastard but my god what a show. From the costuming, to the music, lighting, performances and general vibe, it's such a treasure. Not flawless of course, but sumptuous in a way few pieces of media are.

A classic green throne style port-a-potty among mosses and coniferous trees in warm morning light. These normally offer minimal privacy but this one was a bit of an upward hike from the campsite and offered quite a view of Lanezi Lake through the trees. Among the better woods toilets I've ever encountered.

Sort of reaching the point in my newest Hollow Knight save where I fell off in my original one. Seems there's precise platforming in all directions. Challenging combat feels much more manageable with practice, platforming just feels like you have it in you, or you don't. It's discouraging. #gaming

I'm all for adding alt text to my image and video posts but the experience on the android app is miserable enough to make me mad almost every time. It's so easy to swipe away and lose progress and it largely underlaps the keyboard/bottom of the screen so the save button is mostly obscured. Janky af
