Indeed, embroidered patches on the teddy bear glow with a pulse that matches that of Karlach's infernal engine.

"Something to celebrate your newfound ability to not explode," Astarion chimes in, ready to be showered with praise. "A clever use of spidersilk on my par--"

And the wind is crushed out of Astarion when Karlach grabs him in a big bear hug. "You're the best! C'mere!"

Aldiirn can't help but smile at seeing Astarion help another companion - and maybe also at the side of his legs ragdolling around in Karlach's enthusiastic embrace.

Wyll also smiles at the show. "As one heart slows its terrible burn, another sparks with warmth. Your generosity is rubbing off on Astarion."

"I only gave him the tools and space, it was all on him to decide how to use them," Aldiirn says.

"Don't sell your influence so short," Wyll chides, "I never would have expected the Astarion I first met would freely repair my threadbare clothes. He took his sewing kit and went out of the way for half the camp."

Wyll's last words give Aldiirn a sinking feeling as he catches a glint of something on Wyll's back...

There, barely catching the light on the back of Wyll's crop top are the words "Daddy's Boy" in an elegant cursive. Aldiirn immediately recognizes it as spidersilk embroidery, nearly invisible when used so finely, unlikely to be noticed unless one was looking for it...

Snooping around the rest of the camp, Aldiirn spots "Shar's Favourite Princess" written on Shadowheart's top and "Mystra's Pet" embroidered into Gale's adventuring robes. Aldiirn dares not get close enough to Lae'zel to look for any words on the narrow bands of her top harness, but he's sure Astarion must have made cheeky additions to everyone's clothes.

Aldiirn sequesters himself inside his tent and shoves aside enough of the overgrown fungi to lay his shirt flat. He conjures Dancing Lights and crouches low over his shirt to look for any words that might light up.

"Using an entire spool of spidersilk for a prank is one thing, but all in one rest?" Aldiirn mutters to himself, "I underestimated the time he has when he doesn't hunt...

"He must have run out of one of the other before getting to my clothes," Aldiirn concludes, not realizing he's been looking on the wrong article and that "juicy" is written across the seat of his pants.

He notes something down.

"The normal gestation period of a mind flayer victim doesn't allow for too much feedback on how the body changes up until the parasite completely takes over the host. Things that are natural to us such as reproductive cycles, sickness and aging - these are not usual for aberrations like the illithid. Those anomalies could be used to determine infection in others, perhaps? But how much of the disruption is the parasite and how much of it is the magic controlling it remains unknown..."

As Halsin continued to murmur and write, Tav watched, slowly blinking her eyes up from his hand to the muscle shifting under his skin as he gripped the (charcoal) stick. Further up, the cloak of stiff leaves that covered his shoulders made a gentle shuffling noise at each movement made.

So this was what he was like when working.

Seriously notating theories and trying to accommodate for every possible reason for illness and unnatural reaction to things. Not only accepting things as possible explanations, but arguing with himself to not simply conclude symptoms as a cause and effect. The lines in his face deepened as he frowned and thumbed at the old scars in his chin. After a moment he seemed to notice Tav's wide and unwavering stare.

"...Is something wrong?" he asks.

"Just admiring nature's beauty."

The expression Halsin makes is too complicated for Tav to decipher, and so she gives him the same grace he gave her the night before and turned her head so he could continue writing. When the shuffling of leaves returns, Tav looks back.

Halsin's ears were red, and his mouth was soft with a smile. "...When we return to camp, what would you like me to tell the others?"

Tav may introduce herself as a Bard by trade (a tactic her mum pushed so people underestimated her), but her Fighter training made her very valuable as a guard since that was her main job. She never did sex work - no matter how many people assumed that of her and other Bards :P

Astarion, while not needing to eat, always enjoys sneaking around and takes up sewing repairs into Karlach's stuffed teddy, Clive.
