New paper! Brandon Kilbourne conducted a huge data collection effort for the limb muscle architecture (masses, fascicle lengths, pennation angles; thereby PCSAs) of mustelid mammals. We found conspicuous relationships with morphology and locomotor mode. link.springer.com/article/10.1...

#SundayFishSketch This is a mene. They’ve looked pretty much the same for most of the Cenozoic. Some might call that morphologically boring. Others might find the stasis interesting. I usually carve a paleo and modern version of each fish. In this case, I think one linocut will suffice.

Happy #fossilfriday! @hadeelsaad.bsky.social , Emily Hillan, and I spent the past week in the Appalachian Basin collecting in the Carboniferous. We found a lot of great stuff but the best thing we got was a fossil xiphosuran, Euproops! Very uncommon here. Time to organize it all!
