Part two will be going up today! I’m particularly excited about this one

Lately, I haven’t had any good ideas. Just regular, everyday ideas that don’t seem substantial enough to even record. I’m taking in what I read, and observing what’s around me, but I don’t know. My observations don’t catalyze new ideas.

I finished Lonesome Dove this morning. I feel as if the rest of my week has already been ruined, and I’m in the snake pit with Sean.

Here is the first publication of my 3 week newsletter reflecting on The Recognitions and its idea of forgeries. This book has become significant to me, and I want to share some of the ideas that stuck the most! #booksky #writing open.substack.com/pub/zachbuza...

This Friday, I’m going to start a short, three week newsletter series. It’ll reflect on the ideas of forgeries on the human scale. This is in lieu of completing The Recognitions. First newsletter will be this Friday! #booksky substack.com/@hacz/note/c...

The pitch is that they won’t sell you the system directly. It’ll be bundled into a lease with Gamepass. Gamepass price will be like $30/50/75 a month for Gamepass access + tiers of the hardware. I think console gaming is going the way of cell phone contracts. Consoles were never a money maker anyway

Checking in to remind future me, on this day in July 2026, I slept all the way through the night for a full, unbroken, 8.5 hours of sleep. Woke up with bed head and all.

Before starting Lonsome Dove some quick thoughts after completing Angel Down: it had a really promising structure building through it, but I don't think it earned it's ambiguous ending; overall it didn't land for me. Strip the single-sentence gimmick and I'm not sure it wins the Pulitzer. #booksky

Next up on my summer reading list, Lonesome Dove. I’m very excited for this one. It’s been on my “shelf” since 2017. Completing The Recognitions and Angel Down put me in a headspace for wanting a slow burn story with deep characters. I’ve heard crying is normal for this one lol #booksky

Hey @barackobama.bsky.social part 2 of A Promised Land when?

hacz @hacz.lol · 29/06/2026

~50 pages into Angel Down and I’m not sure I’m feeling it. I see the allure of the McCarthy-esque descriptions of violence, and I’m intrigued by the single sentence prose; the relentless momentum is a little hard to stay with. #booksky

Today, we finish The Recognitions. I’ve been with this goon for just under 4 weeks, and it’s completely changed my outlook on tackling postmodern literature. #booksky

The "is Culver's fast casual" discourse is very funny from where I grew up. In Northern Indiana that was the nice restaurant. On a good night my parents could swing it I would have gotten the shrimp, and would have felt like a Kennedy. Back then, a well done piece of steak & ketchup was extravagant.

Interestingly, Gaddis wrote something similar in The Recognitions when Benny kills himself on live TV. This was in 1950 lol

010

hacz @hacz.lol · 24/06/2026

I’m nearing the end of The Recognitions. In ~900 pages, Gaddis enlightened two things: Everyone smoked like it was necessary. Everyone was sure they were the most genuine person in the room. 75 years later, the only difference is our understanding of cigarettes. We’re all frauds lol #booksky

Punctual ≠ Reliable They are not interchangeable and mean different things. Being punctual is a singular trait of appearing reliable. I thought this was obvious.

Reposting: I’ve operated in environments with strict rules of engagement, and the bar for using lethal force was higher than “it moved toward me.” A dog at an apartment door is not a threat that justifies lethal force. I live here, and I’m tired. Uneducated goons are getting paid too much.

I'm wrapping up 11/22/63 (traveling back in time to save Kennedy) while a crew spent the weekend unscrewing a man's name off the actual Kennedy center. The past is obdurate, indeed. The future harmonizes.
