The reframing: Blindness as deficit → to be accommodated Blindness as epistemic diversity → productive mode of mathematical engagement Challenging ocularcentrism doesn't just open doors It reveals assumptions about mathematical knowledge that sighted practice takes for granted

We examine contributions of blind scientists and mathematicians over three centuries Not to celebrate "triumph over adversity" But to show how blindness shaped their cognitive approaches and achievements in GENERATIVE ways Different sensory engagement → different mathematical insight

Ocularcentrism: the deeply embedded assumption that sight is the principal sense and knowledge derives from visual inspection In mathematics, this runs so deep that the discipline is routinely regarded as inaccessible to blind people We argue this is a misconception - with serious consequences

Using Bourdieu, we show sport operates simultaneously as: ✓ Inclusion - genuine connection, belonging, integration ✗ Exclusion - reinforcing boundaries of nationhood, who "counts" Not a contradiction. This is how sport actually works in hostile political environments

Using Bourdieu's concepts of field, habitus, and symbolic violence + intersectionality, we show: Ethnic monitoring isn't neutral administration—it's a contested site where power differentials are reproduced. Data collection without justice perpetuates harm.

This isn't about individual "choices"—it's about how gender socialization through HPE curricula creates structural inequality. We need gender-equitable PE curriculum reform, teacher training on implicit bias, and cultural shifts that center women's health and self-care.
