I think the non-vengeful way I process it is to talk about meaningful reforms. I have lots of respect for teachers/firefighters, but I think it’d be fair for ANY union representing (& protecting) public employees to be required to carry liability insurance on their members for suits like this.

He’s also banked $1.5 million in pension since retiring in 2005 and still collects the full amount of $91k/year. I can’t say how I really feel if I want to keep this account in good standing.

Yeah, I think the solution they were grasping at is actually pure nitrogen, which doesn’t trigger any air hunger or pain whatsoever, just rapid and peaceful loss of consciousness. (Also against it but if we’re gonna do it, etc. etc.)

What? The man being questioned here, Jack Smith, was literally Special Counsel during the time in question. There are plenty of other points one could make about corrupt Republican appointees, but there are lots of examples of politically independent special counsels.

If this isn’t a reference to the guy exonerated because they found footage of him at a baseball game that confirmed his alibi on Curb Your Enthusiasm, that’s a hell of coincidence. innocenceproject.org/news/how-cur...

I think it’s also underappreciated how the ascendancy of streaming services/binge-watching has contributed to this coalescense around live sports. Like, yeah, plenty of us would’ve loved to hop on Bsky at 9pm on Sundays or whatever to watch Pluribus together but we don’t live in that world anymore.

Ugh. This line. It’s like saying “automobile deaths occur most frequently in close proximity to seatbelts and airbags” and then using that logic to argue these safety mechanisms don’t help people.
Over the past decade, however, overdose-death rates climbed sharply in nearly every city where the strongest harm-reduction policies were in place

If you’re under 35, you may not have ever experienced a time when your working-class neighbor or uncle could afford a watercraft of some kind, and you could park your car for free at a public marina and pay nothing to go out on the water in it.

It kinda feels like people who say we don’t need warning labels or household child safety measures because everything is so safe now. They somehow don’t realize they’re joking about the outcome, which is already DOWNSTREAM of the exact thing we’re talking about.

They would poorly copy the most successful teachers’ lesson plans, cut those teachers’ pay by 90%, and the schools would be taken over brand new “teachers” that were actually shadow-branded Amazon employees in disguise with the knockoff curriculum.

And this on the the same day Josh Brolin catches strays from @timheidecker.bsky.social as an hypothetical example of the “uninteresting celebrity navel-gazing podcaster” trope? What a day to be his publicist… www.wired.com/story/the-bi...
Everybody can go on podcasts and you want to talk to, you know, name a celebrity that I don’t give a shit about. Josh …

I was about to say Josh Brolin for some reason.

OK, Josh Brolin.

Sure, I want to interview Josh Brolin.

Nobody gives a shit about what he did this summer, you know? I don't either. And because also, Josh Brolin probably just told you that on his own TikTok. Right?

He took you on his vacation.

We have total accessibility to these people. When James Stewart went on Johnny Carson, it was like climbing up to the top of the mountain to get a glimpse of some kind of demigod for 10 minutes at night. Like George Washington in the flesh, you know?

But we've all seen a lot of Josh Brolin.

I’m the biggest Beatles fan in the world, but I didn’t watch the interview with Paul McCartney.

Oregon is considering an annual per-mile EV tax so road maintenance is funded more equitably than the gas tax alone. Since it treats PHEVs like BEVs, non-chargers will soon be wasting their money three times!
000
gvonk.bsky.social @gvonk.bsky.social · 23/05/2026
So yes, it charges the battery when you brake but it’s not this recaptured “free” energy that makes the difference. It’s more like how a city can just build a water tower to help maintain water pressure instead of trying to buy a big enough pump to handle peak demand.
000
gvonk.bsky.social @gvonk.bsky.social · 23/05/2026
Ooh, I get to share a @techconnectify.bsky.social video! I learned recently regenerative braking is NOT by itself the main driver of hybrids’ impressive efficiency. Rather, having electric motors that add horsepower when needed lets you get away with a *much* smaller engine. youtu.be/KnUFH5GX_fI
Sure, having 300 horses under the hood can make car go vroom real fast, but once you're up to speed, you don't need any where near that much power.
14:21
This minivan only needs about 30
horsepower to maintain 70 miles an hour. You can get that out of some lawnmowers.
14:29
So rather than give the car a huge V6 engine just to make highway on-ramps a little easier,
14:36
what if we gave it a little four banger optimized for amazing efficiency at cruising speeds, and we used some electric motors to give the engine a boost when accelerating?
