Can’t eat a sandwich until you subscribe to sandwiches. Can’t eat today’s sandwich until it has applied daily sandwich updates. Sandwich now has adverts even though you paid for ad-free sandwich. Can pay again to have less sandwich adverts. Now you can eat the sandwich, but it’s smaller.

House prices in 2024 - "impossibly unaffordable". House prices today - slipping back to 2024 levels is now apparently a disaster.

Do something. My @smh cartoon.
Four frames. 1. Two people declaiming. One says, “Omigosh! The Cost of Living!! Everything is unaffordable!” Other says, “Real estate prices are through the roof!” 2. Same people, “Young people are losing hope of ever being able to afford a home…” “The government should DO something!” 3. PM Albanese at presser says, “OK. We listened. We’ve changed some tax rules to make housing more affordable.” Panel says “A FEW WEEKS LATER…” 4. Same two people, first says, “Omigosh! House prices have CRASHED by 1%” second says, “How will people ever get ahead if the value of their asset plummets?!

@sirswampthing.bsky.social there were 19 consecutive goals kicked to the same end in Giants v Lions from the last goal in the 2nd quarter to the fourth goal of the last. What is the record for the most consecutive goals kicked to the same end?

Perhaps it would be more poignant to analyse why newspapers are out of step with voters rather than bemoan their inability to influence. Maybe, just maybe, many newspapers don’t really care about good governance. Shanahan’s false equivalence between Trump and Harris might be a case in point.

Australia - Reporters Without Borders. Press freedom is not constitutionally guaranteed in this island-continent of 26 million people, but a hyperconcentration of the media combined with growing pressure from the authorities endanger public interest journalism.
