Hello everyone! Unfortunately, I was laid off from Gravity Well today and am looking for a job as a 3D Environment Artist. My previous experience includes: Gravity Well, Moon Studios, Stoic, Envar, Pixanoh, Square Enix MTL, etc. The image shows some projects I've had the pleasure of working on.

Doing a think back to when I used to block everything out in MODO before even starting on a concept. It was...... kind of exhausting.
An arena in an autumnal scene. North side is haunted and dead, south side is idyllic and golden.A beachside arena. On the left and right are two resorts adorned with statues. The statues are crying fountains into the pool on either side. In the bottom right there's a lagoon, in the top left is an cove with boats anchored off shore.A birds-eye view of a stylized verdant valley. The ground is a tartan patchwork of farmlands and settlements. In the center is a Tower on the cliffs overlooking a cove. Ships are docked at a port below.Expanded versions of the previous tower, built up over countless upgrades. You could call it progress, but all they've really done is create a tall, gleaming box of dirt. Are they trying to reach something, or are they running away? Gives +15 to Research.

Some block-headed side characters. They're a little hard of hearing.
A sheet of character designs with a bit of a fashionable look. Top row, left to right: Reclining smoker with an alien musical instrument; a fashionista in a striped dress with many hands wrapped around her head, a single eyeball; a reclining figure smoking with a guitar-like instrument encased in stone; a bulky figure with a large coat and duffel bag. Bottom row, left to right: A bulky figure with a stone microphone for a head, hands fused to the grip; a bulky figure in a large trench coat; a slender figure with a semi-spherical head covered in spikes; a slender figure with a larger semi-spherical head covered in spiked, lodged between rocks that resemble speakers.Top row, left to right: A reclining figure knitting, their knitting has covered themselves, their surroundings, and their cat in creeping, web-like cloth; a hunched man with a cane and a coffin-shaped head, a hunched woman with a cane cradling what looks like a baby, but is actually part of her own face; a figure with a ring-shaped head covered in eye glyphs, reaching into a bag of Stuff; a seated figure with an elongated head propped up by a cane, his arm and part of his head shattered, a shard of stone on the ground with an eye glyph looks around annoyed. Bottom row, left to right: A hunched figure carrying a bundle of hollow, alien-looking reeds; a roughly boy-shaped figure standing neutral; a roughly matronly figure with a triangular head, arms folded; a bulky figure in a large trench coat, his head a semi-sphere adorned with a row of eye glyphs; a lanky teen-looking figure with an elongated pyramidal head, propped up by one hand; a figure in monk-like robes, one hand holding up a head made of heavy stone, almost in an expression of grief.Oh god more of these. Uhhhh okay. Okay. Top row, left to right: A seated figure with a hammerhead, smoking a hookah shaped like a monarch cocoon; a figure with a toggle for a head, wearing a jetpack with a long antenna, carrying a tape or MP3 player of some kind in their hand; a lanky 3-armed figure with hair like bleached coral, grasping at shards of stone to collect in a pile on its back, it lurches under the weight of its collection; a figure leaning back, it's head a stone boombox, its hands locked through the speakers like a stockade; a caterpillar-like figure, its body a large bulky coat, its hands fused into microphones, its face covered by one big microphone. Lotta micrphone stuff. Bottom row, left to right; a figure with fans for hands, roughly Aztec-style eyes on each, its head isn't visible; 3 hoodlums, pyramidal heads, smoking a giant cocoon hookah, one is Slav-squatting with a blank expression, one is sitting cross legged and has only teeth for a face, one his leaning back on its hand and has a spiral for a face, asking for a hit; We're almost done just hang in there. A figure with a body like bleached coral, its legs are normal but above the hips its body turns into a twisting web of stone, lungs and heart visible in the knots, one hand is holding a cigarette, in a different area code its head cranes to look at its phone below, the headphones of which have fallen to the ground, dooming the figure to scroll in silence; final figure is walking, its neck is a concrete tangle of vines suspending its head far above, which appears like the telephoto lens of a camera WE DID IT

This is something Fromsoft and drag do really well. There are 80000000000 "big sword guy" designs, but only one of them rides around on a tiny horse that represents his perverse sentimentality.
Starscourge Radahn from Elden Ring. He is straddling a small horse. The horse's name is "Leonard" apparently. The drag queen Gawdland dressed as, I think, a shrimp cocktail? I can't remember, the episode was awhile ago. The point is she looks very elegant but also has a giant lobster claw.

(The more practical version would maybe be something like "make it 15% [contrasting tone]" Intimidating villain + 15% pathetic Comic relief + 15% tragic Elegant hero + 15% camp or 15% grotesque or 15% crab)

"Make it 15% stupid". Can't recall where I heard that and I'm probably misremembering, but it's helped me be less precious about my design choices. IIRC the idea behind it is that it can make a "good" design into a "memorable" one by adding an unexpected element also its fun

I've been getting pretty genuinely upset at the secret boss fight in ch 5 so I needed to draw something to remind myself this is a world and characters I enjoy. I respect these games even if sometimes that respect doesn't feel reciprocal

This was for a cut biome from Towerborne. The forest is meant to be illusory and sinister, hence the eye motifs and Eyvind Earle-style foliage (I also thought it'd be a fun way to nod back to the Banner Saga style).

Finally getting around to updating my ArtStation with art, and now it's here too.
An autumnal forest with an eye-searing palette of yellows, pinks, greens, and purples. The branches of the birch trees curl into shapes that seem to peer out from the foliage. An autumnal forest in an eye-searing palette of pinks, yellows, purples, and greens. In the distance an ethereal, horned creature gleams in the sunlight, casting prismatic rays yoSpot concepts of different prismatic foliage, heavily stylized and graphical in nature.More spot concepts of lighting and style, with text calling out different elements. Top left box (clockwise): "Maybe godrays are mosaic instead of prism caustic?", "Prismatic bloom along terminator", "Shadows have watercolor-like texture". Bottom right box (left to right): "Rim-light and bounce light create mosaic, semi-metallic texture?", "Geometric, unnatural shapes (maybe only sometimes)?". Bottom callout: "Semi-opaque, milky, cloudy, subtle color shimmer", "Opalescent".

Dead format
Loose thumbnail. A colossal wall of speakers behind a bright orange desert canyon landscape. At the top of the wall a massive cassette player sits, unspooled tape cascading like a waterfall, entangling machinery and cables. Cables and machine parts drape over the landscape, and spires of rock emerge from the ground, which split apart like puzzle pieces. There are like 4 pixels in the bottom center that look like a guy but I can't remember. There's kind of a lot going on here now that I look at it. I probably didn't need to do the puzzle thing, that's a little random.

Some little dreamy landscape thumbs.
3 images stacked vertically. Top: A knot of green grass curling around blue streams, dotted with red bridges and shards of sky. The land crests into a hill with a red lighthouse, against a backdrop of perfectly spaced clouds. Middle: A road of small clouds leads up to the front door of a house suspended in air. There are thin lines indicating the crude contours of a hill. Bottom: A green field dotted in giant shards of glass, a red lighthouse in the distance. The clouds swirl in a circle, and further our, cascade down into the bars of a bird cage. I donno, I thought it was kind of neat.

the problem with the games industry is that it makes money in a sustainable way by creating stuff that people want to pay for this is in contrast to how big capital would prefer to make money, by trying to scale fake numbers to infinity using gambler brained investors lured in by impossible claims

I miss movie tie-in games and I think we should bring them back. And I mean proper ol' fashioned, day-and-date with the movie games, not after-the-fact stuff like RoboCop: Rogue City and the like. Yeah, they were mediocre-to-bad 90% of the time, but it was worth it for the few gems that weren't:

Hey, #portfolioday I'm Eric. I do environments and props and characters and whatnot for games. I'm a style glutton and perpetually on the hunt for projects that push me out of my comfort zone. Here's a few recent things folk paid me to make.
Side view of a wrecked forge. The wall has collapsed revealing the rotund forge with various tracks for minecarts and whatnot. A gobo sits in a minecart in the background teetering on the brink of a bent track.A scene of a bright beach. On the left a ship is lodged in a mass of barnacles, on the right a whale-like submarine has burst open and disgorged its cargo, along with a slick of normal map colors. Wrecked ships dot the sea in the distance.Various designs for some sort of monster spawner. In the center of the image is the final version: a yawning tent with spikes and blades in the shape of an intimidating face. Inside the monsters are getting hopped up on goofballs.Four heroes walk towards the viewer. In the background is a big big tower. In the foreground are some round, marketable creatures.

Artblast piggyback. Towerborne came out last week so I'm gonna post a couple jpegs about it I did over 4 of these
A very wide image showing a deep deep cave, with some glowing pools of liquid, glowing holes, and glowing mushrooms. There's a quasi fisheye thing going on here, I donno, did I pull it off? Be honest.Loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong cave. In the background there's a giant lake of glowing liquid. On the left is a speckled field of glowing grass. In the center is a chair and umbrella. Can lava give you cancer?A scene of a bright beach. On the left a ship is lodged in a mass of barnacles, on the right a whale-like submarine has burst open and disgorged its cargo, along with a slick of normal map colors. Wrecked ships dot the sea in the distance. An arena by the side of a sea hole. Rocks and wreckage mar the landscape, and a great gout of water flushes up from the depths. A sunfish-shaped ship teeters over the gap, getting got by constant backsplashing.

First drawing on the movinkpad pro, figuring out what colors it has.
A person falls through the void in front of a blank sky with clouds and mountains cut out. Little y2k-style cellphone charms dangle from their spiky pink luminous hair and pockets. I drew their hand in front of their face on accident so I put a sticker of a smiling orange on it to compensate.
