Yeah, I think the notion that combining two things we like would produce something we like even more, while maybe intuitive, is just not correct in general. Magic with Universes Beyond is a glaring example of it, and I don't think it's a matter of quality of execution per se.

If I understood it correctly: Football(?) player who was a guest in a bunch of Commander videos is making his own 1v1 competitive Commander format where his Discord votes on bans, but he's also bragging about buying up cards for it. Personally, it kinda feels like the MTG version of a rugpull to me

I decided to be conservative with mulligans in this league, took maybe 3 total across the entire league. Like other Planar Nexus decks, this one probably mulligans really well, so I'll mulligan more aggressively going forward.

I find that user's perspective fascinating, but so different from how I see these things myself. I'm much more aligned with you in the sense that I think friction and tension bring excitement and novelty. I think there's a parallel to the AAA vs indie video game experience there as well.

I tried it with a friend last weekend, and even with the basic Proving Grounds starter decks, the game was already surprisingly deep. I'd say give it a try, if only casually, and see how you feel afterwards.

Yeah, she's probably the best generic card in Legacy right now. I love playing with her and would be a bit sad to see her gone, but part of me would also be excited to play UB with 4 Strix if she does leave. I'm gonna be on UR Cutter for now though, deck is fun

Sounds like I picked a good deck for this weekend then - UR has also performed really well in my testing. UB Tempo can be a tough matchup, but mainly if they run Barrowgoyf main. UR can usually go wide around Nethergoyf with Cutter and win the race in most situations.
