Really looking forward to speaking at @kcdc.bsky.social this week, seeing all my friends, and nerding out. I'll be talking about Reticulum and doing a classic workshop—Putting the D&D in TDD. I am not, however, looking forward to the drive. See ya in 600 miles!

Folks seem to like my technical talks. Jason Koo and I sat down the other day and talked about how I build them—the strategy, the structure, the thought process. The beard helps, but there's more to it than that. Check out the video. www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZLs...

I bought an amateur radio repeater. It's currently on the air and awaiting transferal of the trusteeship. Plus some additional equipment so I can get it properly set up on the Ohio Link Network. Perhaps I've gotten a little too deep into this hobby.

Fine-tuning is the new stored procedure. Logic pushed into the wrong layer. It's fast, of course. No remote lookups. It's as close to the model as you can possibly get. But it's a serious pain to version, to test, or to understand six months later.

And by we, I really mean we. Bring your #LoRa boards, your laptop, your Raspberry Pis, cables, hubs, switches, and whatever networking gear you think might be fun to try to get on the network. Most of it will work.

This month, I'll be speaking about #Reticulum. Don't know what Reticulum is? Not a problem. I'll explain what it is, how it works, and how to write software for it. But it's not just a talk this time, we're getting hands on and building an ad hoc Reticulum network right there in the room.

The other thing I have been busy with is core.radio. We have a Discord server that you might enjoy. You don't have to live in Central Ohio to be on there. At some point I might even start streaming the meetings.

But if I get DMR working, we could communicate directly, right? Probably need a hotspot for that.

Guy Royse @guy.dev · 15/06/2026
Need time, more than anything. But the core.radio group I started has been digging deep into DMR of late. And I do have radios. So it could happen. Lately, been working on building Hubshack. Browser-based rig control software. Hoping to release a very basic implementation soon.

I'm going live with @vscode.dev on YouTube today at 9am PT. Gonna do some Redis Agent Memory, some VS Code Copilot, and a little bit of ham radio! Live coding and AI will be involved so it could be brilliant or it could end in fire and tears. Watch to find out! www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyAx...

I built Earshot. Agents listen to audio (a mic and my ham radio), transcribe it, and write it to shared memory. A chatbot reads it and chats about it. The interesting bit, the agents never talk directly. They just share memory. Agent coordination is just decoupling. github.com/redis-develo...

It is of interest to me! I'm using WebSerial + a Chromium browser to talk to my radio. Combined with the audio capabilities, I can write code in the browser to encode, decode, transmit, and receive various data formats. Good to know it works with Firefox now too. Thanks for thinking of me!

I had the pleasure of hanging out with Jake from EmComm Solutions and dude.eth (not his real name, of course) yesterday to nerd out about it. It's not exactly an introduction to Reticulum, but we had a good time. The video is up on Jake's channel. Give it a gander. www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnps...

You probably haven't heard of the Reticulum Network. The tl;dr—it's an alternative network stack that's decentralized, encrypted, and runs on everything from Ethernet to LoRa radios to serial cables.

Honestly, the canal tours are pretty cool. There's the Rijksmuseum too. And I recommend eating all the bitterballen you can find. My friend @itsrene.nl might have some good suggestions as well.

Well, I spent a good part of my weekend figuring this out and rather than just deploy it to my machine, I thought I'd share a repo that anyone can clone and use to get started with this configuration.

Guy Royse @guy.dev · 30/03/2026
Obsidian Sync so that I and the AI can work with my notes from anywhere. Obsidian CLI so the AI can be more intentional, will be less likely to corrupt any files, and won't consume all my tokens navigating the file structure.
110
Guy Royse @guy.dev · 30/03/2026
I've been trying to get these two tools to work containerized on my headless Linux box. Specifically, I want to use Obsidian Sync + Obsidian CLI.
110
Guy Royse @guy.dev · 30/03/2026
Obsidian (@obsidian.md) is part of that goal. My data stays on my devices and what is shared via the cloud is done so securely, privately, and respectfully.
110
Guy Royse @guy.dev · 30/03/2026
OpenClaw (openclaw.ai) is part of that goal. I'm still not hosting my own AI yet, but the agent's memory lives on my machine. The automation is controlled by me.
110
Guy Royse @guy.dev · 30/03/2026
One of my goals is to own my stuff. I think a lot of people are tired of their data, their tech, and their network being controlled by centralized powers. I am one of those people.

I sometime banter with my AI. The smarter models have a pretty decent sense of humor. Or at least they stochastically fake one pretty well. Here's a fun little interaction with OpenClaw running GPT-5.1.
