jesus did this guy seriously reach out to EVERYONE?? I keep seeing more and more people I follow chiming in to this. I largely avoided that part of his behavior but remember it frequently feeling like he was disappointed the designs I donated weren't "sexy" ones lol.

While I largely dodged this particular side of his behavior, I remember being apprehensive at several points when there seemed to be disappointment that I was not providing "sexy" designs for the books. I'll be reaching out to drivethru to hopefully get the books I contributed to taken down.

I'd put dayLITE out of my mind for a couple years (I'd been pulled in as an artist for his TTRPG books) and I had no idea any of this was going on until this post just happened to come across my feed a couple days ago. I'm so sorry this was your experience, but THANK YOU for sharing.

With other reports of Cam's gross behavior, and the fact that he seems unreachable to request my contributions be pulled, I will be contacting @drivethrurpg.com in the hopes of getting the books I was involved with taken down, as I no longer want ANY association with dayLITE/daylight publications.

While low/no profit was always kind of expected from a small project, what I expected less was coming across tens of other artists who were much more exploited or pressured by the arrangement, and subject to a lot of unwanted interactions besides.

As excited as I was to be giving assets to a publication that seemed to center the work of queer artists and writers, I did and still do need to pay bills, and chose to focus on work that would actually allow me to do that.

— For too long, I looked for my own path in your footsteps.

A long horizontal canvas featuring several depictions of my ffxiv character Zhai, an au ra woman, at various points within her story. The figures follow one after the other and are depicted from left to right as follows:

1 - (left-facing) - She is a small child, chasing after a woman (her mother). Her mother walks forward, giving no notice to the child behind her. Her mother is backed by a bright red depiction of the red moon Dalamud, as if it is a halo.

2 - she is a child, depicted alone and staring down at bloodied hands and clothing. Her eyes are shadowed.
3 - she is a teen, marching forward even while studiously writing in a tome, her entire focus upon the book. At her heels, a small carbuncle follows.
4 - she is an adult, standing firm with a summoner's tome in hand. She points forward, directing Bahamut Egi into battle, a look of fierce determination on her face.
5 - she is doubled over on the ground, dreadwyrm wings sprouting from her back. Her scales are twisted into more monstrous shapes, and her features are contorted in distress, as if the power is out of her control.
6 - she sits bare on the ground, facing away from the viewer. The scales upon her back are ruined by open bloodied wounds where the wings once were, and one hand reaches tentatively over her shoulder to touch them.
7 - she is armored, pulling herself up from the ground with a greatsword for support, with a ghostly silhouette of Fray standing behind her. This image faces the opposite way, no longer following the memory of her mother.
8 - she marches resolutely (if morosely) forward, bedecked in a dark knight's armor. She is backed by a bright red depiction of the Abyssal Shriek spell, as if it is a halo.

Yeah! I find having done the actual brain-intensive work in the morning often leaves me in a good spot to do cleanup/refining after work as a wind-down even if I'm tired.

This can apply to anything. Feel like you don't have the energy for a hobby at the end of your day? Do it in the morning. Carve out space for your you-time when you're freshly rested and let it carry you through the day. I am 100% not a morning person but this has me awake early because it's FUN.

I got stuck in a "work before anything else!!!" mentality for so long, treating personal art and creativity like a reward at the end of the day instead of a necessary fuel to keep moving, and I'm glad to finally be free and feeling the benefits across the board. 😭

I switched this up recently and it has made a HUGE difference in my general relationship with art. I am no longer getting frustrated by feeling like I have no time for me. (Imagine!) I realize not everyone's schedules work with this, but it's SO good if you can manage it.

To anyone who, like me, has suffered from "by the time I am done with work I have no energy left to work on things for me" disease, I can highly recommend giving yourself an hour (or even just 30 mins) at the START of your day to just draw for you. It seems so simple but took me forever to do.
