this is what it looks like after being encoded by my composite encoder, and then decoded by vhs-decode's cvbs-decode library
test card of eight swatches per row, with a resolution test first, then the solid color after. this is after being modulated to composite NTSC video, then modulated back to an RGB image. the aspect ratio is different due to the way cvbs-decode handles composite video sampling.

first row: 100% white, yellow, cyan, green, magenta, red, blue, and black

second row: linear ramp from white to black in eight steps

third row: 75% white, yellow, cyan, green, magenta, red, blue, and black

fourth row: just an image of my Everdrive N8 Pro on my AV famicom, and my red stuffed rabbit "Dulpo" holding an NES controller.

made a lil test swatch just to point and poke at composite signals; loosely based on the EBU color bar tests

so retro, i'm sure it's been done to death but it's still pretty neat to transcode to composite and back in realtime

made a (barely functional proof-of-concept) WASM+JS shell for Pally, a NES palette generator This uses the fresh Rust port, so some features may be borked or not present. gumball2415.github.io/src/pally/pally-web.html #nes #nesdev #2C02

it's alive! Pally in Rust doing the bare minimum NES color palette generator based on encoding and decoding the PPU's (emulated) composite output github.com/Gumball2415/...
Code of the main execution flow in Rust programming language. it reads:

/// Runs the CLI
pub fn run_cli() -> Result<(), Box<dyn Error>> {
    // parse arguments

    // Get default black/white points?
    // construct encoder and decoder
    let pally = PallyGenConfig::new();

    // generate colors
    let palette = generate_colors(&pally);

    let path: &Path = Path::new("test.pal");
    // save colors
    save_colors(path, &palette)
}A screenshot of Mesen2's NES video setting dialog window. In the background of the dialog window is the full_palette test ROM, which shows all the possible colors of the NES.

The test palette from Pally is loaded in Mesen2!

# 2025-07-12 12:35 - The Book: 12.3 - Rustlings: 94/94 (done) - RBE: 24 (done) yipee, apparently i already finished Rustlings! now i can focus on finishing The Book
The success screen at the end of Rustlings. A big ASCII art depiction of Ferris is shown with a speech bubble saying, "You made it to the Fe-nish line!". The latter text mentions about user feedback regarding the Rustlings program, as follows:

We hope you enjoyed learning about the various aspects of Rust!

A list of sections of the first chapter of the Rust By Example book. They are listed as follows:
1. Hello World
1.1. Comments
1.2. Formatted print
1.2.1. Debug
1.2.2. Display
1.2.2.1. Testcase: List

# 2025-07-10 13:36 - The Book: 11.3 - Rustlings: 92/94 - RBE: 23 sometimes i think The Book is pushing me to be a smartass.
A Rust programming language question which asks the following:

Consider a program with the following unit test:

```
#[test]
fn test_the_logger() { /* ... */}
#[test]
fn test_the_database() { /* ... */}
#[test]
fn test_logger_and_database() { /* ... */}
```

what is the shortest sring you can pass to `cargo test <the_string> such that only `test_the_logger` and `test_the_database` are executed? My answer was `test_the_`, while the correct answer was `h`.

i guess having an autocorrect that spans an entire paragraph might be neat but i'm concerned about this convenience building habits that companies can profit over and eventually fuck us up with. ew. i'd rather build muscle memory with my hands than simply glancing at code that i didn't type
