I still enjoyed it but those last 2 seasons of Battlestar Galactica really couldnt match the quality of the first 2.

Man that post describing the head on commercial as a historical example has me feeling pretty damn old. Brb going to stare at some newgrounds website snapshots.

Completely random side take. It's amusing? That rates are at levels now in the USA that would be bailout talk territory back during the Eurozone crisis. Amazing how much you don't need to worry about shit, when you don't have to question does your central bank back the sovereigns under it.

Most Irish people expect EU would defend us, but a minority would send military help the other way
While close to 60% of adults think EU countries would come to Ireland’s aid, only a third think Ireland should be prepared to militarily support another EU country if it is attacked.

I have this idea for a sitcom about the ministry of defense for a small country that's kinda chill and isn't catching smoke from anyone. Sort of a Parks and Rec type thing. Like, the head of the Jamaican Defense Force's air wing pushes to buy some used F-16s from Portugal to everyone's bafflement.

Whine against the dying of the light. Good article. And it heartens me in a way. He will be forgotten and cast aside quickly, I have confidence in that.

One of many reasons I have raw contempt for jens Weidman and the entire bundesbank clique is their pious moralising about fiscal responsibility, with zero ownership of the eventual consequences. Mario draghi had to bail them out, and they never apologized.

The wikipedia one I kinda get, I do remember the snooty snobbishness about it. See lots of replies saying wiki was not shoved down people's throats, but that's not what he is saying here. Defo inventing a person to be mad at energy to some of the replies.

A rather grim observation that strengthens this, is that Iran as a whole is already deeply in the hole as an economy. So the Americans don't really have many other levers to pull in that regard. Oh you are threatening to take our economy from shit to turbo shit? Oh no whatever will we do!

It's a thing that has happened in multiple western countries and I guess I must be in a minority when I think in all instances the government should seize the haulage and farm equipment used and bankrupt everyone involved.

I feel like I need to read why they were going to shelve it in the first place. Normally it's a case of the test screenings being rancid, but this movie was delightful and heartful. Also lots of great visual background gags.

Not to pick on David, I think he has interesting points of view. But this is an insanely America main character syndrome view Starmer failed due to an inability to stand for anything or take a solid public stance on anything. Government running on standby It had nothing to do with centrism

To the headline question, probably not no. That said all the top drivers locking in contacts currently, the grid is just going to ossify further and further. Beyond petty greed from the existing teams, zero reason they should not have a 26 car grid to provide extra slots.

To take the suggestion seriously for a moment it would kinda defeat the actual power of the EU which is several smaller nations banding together to pool power. But yes the uninimity on certain decisions is sub optimal, and would speed up quite a few areas if it finally gets proper reform.

Padraig @gullimont.bsky.social · 30/08/2026
It's an utterly crackers double standard when you do lay it out plainly. Everywhere else adults are expected to be adults in making decisions, but the moment you get to choosing their politicians people get permission to act like lead poisoned 5 year olds. I have no idea how you fix this though.

This reminds me I watched the latest season of berlin on Netflix, and I was curious how the English dub was done. I assume they used ai to sync up the mouth movements, resulting in one of the most unsettling uncanny valley effects I have ever seen. Lads just dub over without lip fuckery. It's fine.

This is the inevitable consequence of the trump admins childish dickery. You have a bunch of fire once weapons, so you better make sure you keep them for emergency only. Instead it's all being fired off in a strop and limply smacking against a wall.

I have heard this is sort of too clever by stuff. But I do at the same time remember in formula 1 they once got the driver to accept a contract breakage because the terms said they needed to provide him with a chassis, but it didn't specify an engine. Weird smart arse legal moves can work.

Interesting actual rational for American speed limits (how they are set). In Ireland they just go by road designation, so have these bizarre situations with a very good straight country road limited to 80kmh and then some single lane death trap at 100kmh!

Older thread. But it does make me ideally wonder if the world has ever seen a period of robust economic growth at the same time as an American downturn? Unless these things are fully decoupled, it's going to be a rather bad time for many. That said I see that day getting closer and closer.

It really was a bizarre sort of mini period when you think about it, as this lad points out. Pure twilight zone, the parasocial weirdness of famous people indulging members of the public with pretend friendship. I have no idea why it happened, and certainly do not desire observing a repeat.

I am just idly wondering here but normally in the discourse you have talk of how much more the Americans spend on defense, and it being used as a proxy for military power over others. This entire episode has raised very uncomfortable questions, that the inefficiency levels are massive.
