At age 5, Hind Rajab by herself did more to document Israel's genocide of Palestinians than the entirety of the US mainstream media and now we have to listen to the pigs who killed her ask the question "Was it acceptable to murder a child just because we wanted to?" Pathetic coverage, as usual.

Per the Middle East Studies Association, since October 7, 76 North American academics have been fired for speaking out against the genocide in Palestine. Two-thirds of those people are non-white. 16.5% are Jewish. afi.mesana.org/resource/les...
Retaliation goes far beyond firing. Of 196 recorded incidents of employer retaliation against employees speaking out on Palestine, nearly 40% (76) resulted in termination. Retaliation that does not rise to the level of termination is an even larger phenomenon.
All categories of academic workers are at risk. Of the 162 individuals whose employment status was disclosed, 30% involved non-tenure track faculty or instructors, and 36% were tenured.
People of color are disproportionately affected. Of the 134 cases recorded in the AFI database in which respondents’ identification is known, two-thirds were people of color: 30% SWANA; 10.5% Black; and 27% other POC. Additionally, 16.5% identify as Jewish. More than half of those targeted whose gender is known are women. Such retaliation compounds the abuse of already racist and sexist work environments.

How can the Houthis keep making gains in Taiz while all these other fronts remain largely inactive? What's actually going on behind the scenes????

Is this really all the internationally recognized Yemeni government's forces can do? Why aren't the other fronts in Marib, Al-Jawf, Saada, Hodeidah, Shabwa, Al-Bayda, and Abyan being activated to force the Houthis to divert their forces?

@nickjbrumfield.bsky.social Nick, what the hell is happening in Yemen? The Houthis are encircling Taiz and seemingly swallowing it whole, with no meaningful response beyond failed attacks in Al-Wadiah and Bab al-Mandab. Now they're striking the rear lines in Al-Mudarabah.

I am deeply sympathetic to people organizing tirelessly against genocide for years, and think a degree of grace should be given in light of that context But damn does this show the limitations of a political strategy based around organizing protests against whoever happens to be in power

What role do you think Saada could play in the next phase of the war, given that it is the Houthis’ main stronghold right on the Saudi border?

@nickjbrumfield.bsky.social Nick, do you think the Houthis could eventually take the war into Saudi territory and seize border towns in Najran, Jizan or Asir—not just strike them with drones and missiles?

The youngest person his pager attack killed was 9-year-old Fatima Abdullah, who had just started 4th grade. The pager was on a table when it went off and she picked it up to take to her dad. It exploded in her face and reports said it covered the room in her blood. She wanted to learn English.

With Yemen back in the news and people maybe trying to learn about its very complex geography and local political identities, it could be good to re-up this thread I did two years ago on the geography, politics, economy, and culture of each of Yemen's mainland governorates

Look Riyadh either needs to fight the Houthis, let the UAE back in to fight the Houthis, or cut a deal with the Houthis and gtfo of Yemen cuz this waffling shit is getting old after about 7 years.

And this war has resulted in hundreds of thousands of dead civilians, many due to starvation resulting from the blockade of Houthi-controlled areas by the Saudi/UAE/US-aligned coalition. The Houthis have also not been particularly friendly to international aid workers/orgs and share blame

The War on Terror ideological apparatus built after 9/11 is currently being used to wage war against Iran and Yemen on behalf of the country whose intelligence agents helped the hijackers after they arrived in the US, and support Israel's entirely unrelated genocide against Palestine and Yemen

What’s strange and surprising is that Saudi Arabia was the one that started the war in the first place, so it should have been the side that was the most prepared and on high alert.

According to the Iranians, today’s strikes targeted hangars housing US warplanes. Perhaps the attack was intended to thwart an imminent airstrike that they were expecting.
