Although Face of Horror and The Love Witch are great at what they're going for, Anna Biller's dedication to recreating early 1970s decor, clothing, smut and horrid food recipes in Viva (2007) is beyond.

I do appreciate that this came up in my photo memories for today so I could once again marvel at the worst marketing I saw on BART that happened to be up on Indigenous People's Day.

An ad for Columbus meats with sliced turkey breast with the label that says "without antibiotics." Columbus, of course, spread diseases to everywhere his crew stopped and died partially from not having antibiotics.

The copy says "lunch meat needed a role model" which, well, with the murder, rape, genocide and just plain being wrong about geography, that's just weird, even if it's just a meat's role model?

The secondary copy says "no antibiotics. No nitrates. No boloney." Because it shows sliced turkey, it's a pun.

I just got a request for completing a survey for an anesthesiologist that worked on me for a recent medical procedure. If I can remember enough to accurately complete a survey about the experience, she absolutely failed to do her job.

I don't have an answer. I want rich people's money to be spent on art and artists. I want more beautiful things to be made and maybe even made with the kind of boldness that comes with having endless money behind you. But that's the same origin story of Skydance/Paramount/Warner Brothers.

On the one hand, I love Laika. I love animation and I love what they make in particular. On the other hand, in 2nd grade, I wrote that I wanted to work at Will Vinton Studios and I didn't expect that a shoe magnate would buy the studio because his nepo son liked animation too.

This is Derps. His legs didn't correctly form in the shift from tadpole to froglet, making it impossible for Derps to sit or swim normally. Derps likely won't make it to adulthood. But he doesn't appear to be in pain and is as happy as can be. He hunts, stumbles through water, and climbs on rocks.

It's hard! I don't discount the emotional and physical labor. I have just found it worth it. (And I use it as an excuse to clean the house that actually motivates me, but the better I know someone, the less I go all out on that.)

It is good for everyone's mental health to see homes that aren't Pinterest boards. Use the daily dishes. Put down paper napkins. Let them bring a side dish or dessert. "You matter enough to me that I shoved the junk that doesn't have a place into the bedroom" can start or cement friendships.

There's a really basic joy to inviting the neighbors over to play Jackbox and eat fondue. Yeah, you have to straighten up the shared space and say, "What don't you eat?" And there's a chance that one of them doesn't actually know any trivia. But it's cheaper than your half of the restaurant bill.

Let's add one more layer: the collapse of AI --> collapse of Oracle --> collapse of Oracle stock --> collapse of the value that Ellison borrowed against to do the Skydance deal (beyond the foreign money that's also overleveraged in AI). He's just morally bankrupt for now, but it's sooo tenuous.
