Inspired by @flashneko.bsky.social, I've decided to try and tackle my own gunplay back log, starting with the HGUC Gundam Mk III. An older model, it wasn't particularly difficult and served as a good reintroduction into the hobby.

I have done this as well. I admit my pick for Overhated is a little weird because I couldn't think of anything else and these days 08th has apparently become somewhat loathed? I do think it has become somewhat overexposed as a normie choice but it's a perfectly fine series.

In the end, he was too weak to do anything. But unlike earlier, the story has sympathy for his situation: every person is at the mercy of forces beyond their control.

Unfortunately, a dog collar is an ill fit for a human being, and Yolg is refitted into a disposal cyborg warrior by Barjack. Confronted with having to shoot his friends, he finally stands up for himself, and is promptly destroyed for his rebellion.

He follows Alita initially, but betrays her when Barjack gets the upper hand. To justify himself, he gives this quite revealing speech:

First panel: Seated in a gun carrier, Figure Four regards Yolg in disbelief. "Y-yolg, what are you...?"

Second panel: Yolg holds up his hands defensively, sweating and obviously uncomfortable. "I-I haven't done anything wrong... I-I just wanted to side with the b-big guys..." "Y-you're probably thinking I'm a c-coward..."

Third panel: Yolg is closer to us now, sweating ever more profusely. "...B-but Alita and F-Figure... you both h-have strength and c-courage..." "B-but what ab-bout a w-weakling like me? Wh-what am I s-supposed to do?"

Fourth panel: Desperate to justify himself, Yolg screws his eyes shut and weeps while shouting. "FREEDOM is something the st-strong can have!" "I-I'd rather have a D-DOG COLLAR t-than F-FREEDOM!"

Later in the series, this theme is again revisited: meet Yolg. He's a farmer temporarily acting as a mercenary in order to find safe passage back to his home town. He's no soldier, he's pretty pathetic. He gets caught in Alita's mission to hunt down members of a rebel group called Barjack.

First panel: Yolg sits next to Figure Four in a cramped train car. Yolg leans over to Figure, offering him a rations box. "I-I saw that fight you had... you were GREAT. Want MY rations too?"

Second Panel: Yolg rubs the top of his head self-consciously. "J-just ask me ANYTHING. It's your first tour, right?" "M-my name's YOLG!"

Third Panel: Reaching behind Figure, Yolg adjusts the gun on his back. "I-if you move your gun like THIS... it won't b-bump against those shoulder blades of yours."

Figure, still eating his rations. "Yolg, huh...? Thanks."

Zapan was given a wildly powerful nanomachine body, and goes wild in his search for Alita. Powerless to stop him, people beg Alita to sacrifice herself to abate his anger. Alita looks down at them; how can they be such cowards?

Been a while since I've been able to watch something feature length but I managed to see The Whale God (1962). A somber film that borders on ponderous, it still has many interesting points to it. The whale puppet is uncanny, looking like a cross between a right whale and the baby from Eraserhead.

Watching Shin Kamen Rider: Prologue( the 1994 movie, not the 2024 one), which is darker and more gory than your usual Kamen Rider but otherwise sort of bland until this thing shows up and I immediately locked in.
