As I just got my rejection from Dokomi, this will most likely be a "no convention" year, so here is the link to my etsy store again: grumpybobcreations.etsy.com Currently working on a restock and some new prints 😊

LOVE their art!

Now let me show you the content of the final diy kit! The only step left is to stick together and bind the four remaining sticks with the notch in a X at top and bottom and the lantern 🥰 Offering the lantern in this way makes it a not only easier to transport. #grumpybobcreations #handmade #wip

040

Grumpy Bob Creations @grumpybobcreations.bsky.social · 03/06/2025

Now it is time to partially assemble the lanterns by sewing the individual parts together 🧵 #grumpybobcreations #handmade #wip #crafting #lantern

030

Grumpy Bob Creations @grumpybobcreations.bsky.social · 01/06/2025

I usually drill a hole somewhat below the middle of the sticks we are going to use to stabilise our lantern in the final steps, cut out the rest and file a bit to achieve the notch in the middle. Two more holes at the end and we are good to go! #grumpybobcreations #handmade #wip #crafting #lantern

Somehow my Dokomi prep-support isn't supporting 😿 Either he is playing with my paper scraps or sleeps under the table. So I guess it's all on me again 🙈

Grumpy Bob Creations @grumpybobcreations.bsky.social · 28/05/2025

And we continue with lantern crafting! At least for a bit 😊 The next step is to drill holes into the plastic foil in order to prepare it to be tied together in the next step. #grumpybobcreations #handmade #linocut #print #printmaker #paper #yokai #maneki #kappa #wip #crafting #lantern

I survived #japantag! Thank you so much for everyone who stopped by and appreciated my work ❤️ I will now go into hibernation for a few days and start to finalise my prep for #dokomi right after that 😅 who will I see there? 👀

He is a roofer and has right equipment in his workshop to do those tasks in a more efficient way than I could ever do in my little city apartment 😸 Big shout out! 🥰 #grumpybobcreations #handmade #linocut #print #printmaker #paper #woodwork #wip

Grumpy Bob Creations @grumpybobcreations.bsky.social · 21/05/2025

Usually the point within the lantern crafting where I start panicking, is when I have to cut a bunch of wood and drill an infinite amount of holes into it with my crappy equipment because this takes FOREVER. But not this time! This time I got lucky and my dad was so kind to help me ❤️

Grumpy Bob Creations @grumpybobcreations.bsky.social · 19/05/2025

After drying comes gluing! Followed by more drying of course 😅 Each print will be hand glued to a 0,2mm thick transparent foil. This gives it more stability and prevents the paper from being damaged easily. 😊 #grumpybobcreations #handmade #linocut #print #printmaker #paper #yokai #maneki #kappa

Did you know "Japan-Tag" is a famous German-Japanese festival in Düsseldorf, happening for the 22nd time this year. Several cultural highlights, such as show acts, food trucks, cosplay contests or marshal art shows are spread over parts of the city and will be concluded by the fireworks at the Rhine

I'm sorry you had to go through this 😔 I think most women know that feeling. Maybe you could phone with your BF or a friend until you are home next time? Just to feel a bit more in control over the situation. Here we have a "Heimwegtelefon", a volunteer service you can call until you reached home.

I love Awagami, Japanese washi, but sometimes it's a bit hard to get and the prices are also a topic here. But it's a very beautiful paper that's easy to print on. For most of my regular prints I use Lokta paper from Nepal :)
