In weird weather/animal news last wk saw 1 snow goose hanging out on shores of St. Lawrence @ N.D.duPortage. Relatives attest seeing it earlier in season. Injury may be culprit but what struck as ODDer were some flocks of Snow Geese heading SW by Sept 1? Typically witness them that way ~mid Oct.+/-

Know we all know but guess I just want to put more evidence out into world. My grandfather collected old maps & they’re displayed at his former summer place on the St. Lawrence River which my family shares. This map shows Lake Ontario’s name in place in 1755 so 112+ years before province was named.
A map of “New France” from 1755 with an inset of all the Great Lakes attributed to Sir Robert Vaugondy. The Lake Names are “Superieur, Michigan, Huron, Erie, & of course, OntarioInset “Supplement” map from larger map of “New France” with all the Great Lakes and attributed to Sir Robert Vaugondy. Wow, are people on Bluesky looking “UP”! This is it should be! While it is coolish relatively speaking in S Ontario rn and we’ve had a break from air quality warnings this week, it won’t take much to change that. Climate Crisis is now and we should keep “looking up” and do things about it!

Yesterday I saw it.. the very last truffula tree of them all. Given all the smoke and heat I wasn’t too surprised to find it indoors and sapped of its colour Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot.. nothing is going to get better, it’s not.

This is how the current expansion will appear (roughly) proportional to the above. The calculations are not available for the time to refresh the water yet but just looking we can see a significant decrease in space for the water to flow into the harbour.
The city of Toronto's waterfront is shown with a large chunk of runway going further into Lake Ontario cutting off water flow through the Western Gap. No Data is available yet on the flow numbers in and out nor Hydraulic Residency time but the expectation is a markedly lower flow in due to the size of the runway, the lighting extensions, jet blast barriers etc..

Billy Bishop expansion Pub health! Red arrows=sewage flow to TO's inner harbour during storms. Image on L is current situation. Inflow into Western Gap & outflow out Eastern Gap. Time H20 refreshed=6.7 days. On R more MODEST 2013 Jets proposal,⬆️takes 12.3 days. Runway expansion=huge⬆️yet. Days=? 💩💧🤢
A map of water flow through the Toronto Inner Harbour currently. Water goes in the Western Gap to the inner harbour at a rate of 67.4 cubic metres per second. It exits at the Eastern Gap at 71.3 cubic metres per second. Some water enters the harbour from the Don River at a rate of 3.9 cubic metres per second. Hydraulic Residence Time (time to fully refresh water) is listed as 6.7 days. Multiple arrows show where combined sewers outflow in the lake from shore. Implication is these carry sewage into harbour during storms.Same scene as previous but with a more modest than 2026 proposal for Jets from 2013, with Western Gap only getting an inflow to inner harbour at 34.8 cubic metres per second and exiting the Eastern Gap at 38.7 cubic meters per second. The input from the Don River is 3.4 cubic meters per second. The Hydraulic Residence time in the harbour.. is 12.3 days. Multiple arrows show where combined sewers outflow in the lake from shore. These arrows demonstrate how many places actual sewage would be coming out during a storm event. The implication is that the sewage would be in the harbour until 12.3 days had passed.

Love BC signage re not feeding wildlife & wish we had more of it in Ontario. Meanwhile self abuse is rampant. Have to admire gulls’ ability to work collaboratively & mount fairly aggressive sneak attacks on unsuspecting snackers from behind. Told sometimes falcons brought in to curb-saw none.

I learned a new word “bastule” bridge, and I never guessed I could be quite so enthralled by a bridge. It feels odd and a little unsettling to see the path you are about to take swing up directly in front of you. Johnson St Bridge, Victoria, BC.

One good news thing about VIA Rail is my recent readings on there have been FAR better. Not perfect-FAR better. A few stops where doors opened and let in a little more air. The peak is likely when the food cart was happening and the server engaged in lengthy conversation with my near neighbours.
A Carbon Dioxide reading graph from an Aranet CO2 monitor with a peak in the timeframe shown of 938ppm. Arrived on VIA Rail Train ~5pm and departed shortly after 7:30 pm. Most of the trip the reading shows that time frame and shows the reading is mostly just under 900ppm.

Wow. Some USians so testy about fact all N,C & S Americans are “Americans”. I figured US appellation came about fairly lazily, but since it was pointed out to me by S Americans in the 90s, I’ve been awake to fact we’re all Americans. Though not sure we want the association-name’s been through a LOT.

Another Child Care in Toronto. Beautiful new facilities located within condo building. Actually operated on behalf of @toronto.ca . Such fresh build one MIGHT expect excellent IAQ. In that case one would be wrong. Dips are when outdoors or..I took lunch. Can only hope they have top notch filtration.
A chart from an Aranet CO2 monitor shows inadequate ventilation for a day in a child care centre as described by high CO2 levels. Peak CO2 is at 3:21 pm at 1932ppm. Sharp dips exist when the group heads outdoors or the user heads out for lunch or to go home. Later the chart rises up at a home due to gas cooking. There is a lot of orange and red on the graph which tells us the “allowable” (according to manufacturer ) 1000 ppm is exceeded frequently.

It implicates a city bike path. It affects a neighbourhood who can’t access their park/TTC. Painful!
