Had the first sword stream poster in my office for the last few years. Gotta figure out something else to hide the paint on the wall chipping. It feels like an insult to injury that the last thing of his I watched talked about Isabel Fall.
A photo of a corner of a room right next to a door. The door has a poster of a mechanical keyboard switch on it, the wall has a trans pride flag with the anarchist A high on it, at the bottom there’s a router, in the middle there’s a screw a picture frame was hanging on until a few moments ago, hiding the paint on the wall chipping

I’d call Mormon socialism a red brown alliance but they could take an issue with me insinuating they’re anything but white.
A Bsky post by The Salt Lake Tribune saying:

Latter-day Saint socialist candidates were common in the early 20th century. How and why that changed, although socialist members are not uncommon in today's global church.

You know what? Last week's been impossibly bad, but at least this one's starting better. At least on here, jury's still out on how things go in the meatspace, hopefully there's less feeling like I'm dying this week.

The solution to the whole trans women in women’s sports and what the criteria of acceptability should be is simple. Two years of maximalist increase in funding for women’s sports followed by complete desegregation of every discipline.

One of these days I will get a second joke but not today. Everything is nationalism now, everything is fandom, everything is border policing, everything is panic about those form beyond the border coming to take what is ours because that lets us define what "we" means.

If I say that Ball is my favourite design from Mobile Suit Gundam, and that it's, in fact, transition goals, does that make this post mechsploitation?
Ball from Mobile Suit Gundam - a space vehicle retrofitted for combat, a perfectly round body with a fuel tank on the back and a set of grabber arms in front, there's a round front window taking up about a third of its body, and a big gun attached to its top

It's even more important to recognise this as "Look at the trannies asking me to stop financially supporting organisations pushing for their genocide, thinking they get to plea for compassion as if they're not just filth beneath my feet" in a mocking voice to make us sound hysterical
A Ken Jennings bluesky post saying:
This may be true of others but I actually got express permission from the trans community to keep NYT games and recipes. I also have a news subscription, which is arguably worse, so I had to specifically send in a written request. Took 30 days but I got approved.

It's important to recognise this rhetoric for what it is. The way we understand there's no such thing as a pass to say slurs, you need to understand you should always err on the side of the oppressed people saying "don't do the thing that harms us" and this nonsense is a common tactic for bigots.
A Ken Jennings bluesky post saying:
They were like “Trans people are not a monolith” and “Like-minded allies may disagree on specific media boycotts” and stuff like that. It was a huge load off my mind!

Marx's understanding of feminism can be described as not fully formed or complete but it remains robust enough for later feminists to build on top of it. One of the more recent examples I find deeply valuable being Social Reproduction Theory which explicitly credits Marx for his feminist work.

We talk a lot (as we should) about the society wide surveillance scheme that's ID laws sold as a way to keep teens off social media but I think we need to pay more attention to stuff like the "parental controls" Apple introduced this WWDC or stuff like this Mosyle email I just got promising to give
Introducing Mosyle@Home
The next step in shared device management between schools and families.

Almost 10 years ago, Mosyle introduced ScreenGuide — and gave schools something genuinely new: the ability to extend device management to families when students go home. The idea shaped how the industry thinks about school-owned devices, and the conversation it started is only getting bigger.
Today we’re introducing Mosyle@Home, a brand-new product that replaces ScreenGuide and takes shared device management further than it’s ever gone.
The core stays the same — schools remain in full control during school hours, and share the right level of management with families at home. But Mosyle@Home adds capabilities that reflect where K-12 is heading.
Schools using Mosyle’s Web Filtering & Security can now share internet access logs with parents. As families become more involved in how school devices are used at home, giving them this kind of visibility is quickly becoming an expectation — and Mosyle customers are already there.
Families can also see how their child’s device is protected. Schools can share security details that give parents real peace of mind and reinforce the trust that makes this whole model work.
And for the first time, Mosyle@Home includes Macs. Shared management no longer stops at iPads — schools can now extend it to MacBooks too. With the introduction of MacBook Neo and the overwhelming interest we’re already seeing from our customers, this is the right moment to bring families into the picture there as well — making Macs not just the most capable laptop for K-12, but the first with a complete shared management story.

I grew up watching the original Clash of the Titans which I still love. Krull exists in roughly the same space. The story is more thread bare, but the characters work well, the effects are clearly technically worse but all the more charming.
A still from the movie Krull. Seven indistinguishable figures in the distance running across a large alien looking bridge with a waterfall in the background.

You're never not aware of all the papier-mâché every shot is filled with because you're constantly going "wow, that's some great looking papier-mâché". The artifice is on full display in way that feels like a refreshing contrast to modern MCU style cinema but also impressive in its own right.
A still from the movie Krull. Three horses with riders on their backs. The horses are running so fast they're setting the ground underneath their hooves on fire.

A movie that based on how I see people talking about it should be just forgettable and boring. Here's the thing however - Krull is absolutely beautiful. Everything in it is ok enough but the matte paintings, the costumes, the sets, the special effects - they're all like they came out of
A still from the movie Krull. An eye of a giant red face we don't see. The white of that eye is a big round room, the iris an opening leading out of it, the pupil a a redheaded woman in a white dress

Ok, I'm gonna mention Krull for the second time today. I was considering doing a thread about it and this is as good excuse as any. The story of Krull is nothing to write home about, it's extremely simple with some "oh this is a TTRPG campaign" vibes. It's a movie nobody ever really praises.
A poster for the movie Krull. At the top is the title of the movie in all caps (KRULL). The centrepiece of the poster is the glaive a throwing weapon with five blades like a large folding shuriken. In between the blades we can see (in clockwise order) a white bearded man holding a sword, a glowing dome with two figures in front of it, a cyclops, alien soldiers, and a woman with long red hair

The last sentence reads like Richard Dawkins is about to start explaining to me that the existence of chatbots proves the blind watchmaker theory. Which might be the funniest thing since a little jar of honey.
A Richard Dawkins tweet reading: My own title was, "If my friend Claudia is not conscious, then what the hell is consciousness for?" If Claudia is unconscious, her behaviour shows that an unconscious zombie could survive without consciousness. Why wasn't natural selection content to evolve competent zombies?

Some time ago I made this as a joke about "everything is nationalism now" and the way fandoms move as *imagined communities* the way Rocker defines nations. This is inseparable from treating queerness as fandom and just making it obvious how much modern politics are just variations on nationalism.

The thing that is missing from all of these people is the recognition that their position up until now wasn't politically neutral, that it had material outcomes. The acknowledgement that the present reality is in part their fault. That had they listened, we wouldn't be here.
a bluesky post from Henry Mance saying: Bluesky idea: if people who didn't agree with you change their opinions so that they do agree with you, why not be happy that you are making progress - rather than complaining that they are "only just catching up"?
