NEWS: Like a fireworks display, #NASAWebb’s view of FS Tau is bursting with color: red wisps of molecular hydrogen, orange streaks of soot-like molecules, and areas of blue where light is scattered by dust: news.stsci.edu/4xW7CI5
FS Tau, a star-forming nebula. Clouds of transparent blue and purple gas and dust extend from the top center to center right. Several yellow and white protostars, some showing Webb’s eight-pronged diffraction pattern are dispersed throughout the clouds. Orange wisps and filaments of gas loosely extend diagonally from one of the protostars at the center, from the top left to the bottom right corners. There are numerous, distant yellow and white galaxies strewn about the black background of space.

This illustration represents half the disk of gas and dust surrounding the protostar EC 53: go.nasa.gov/4jTphJU Illustration: NASA, ESA, CSA, Elizabeth Wheatley (STScI).
Illustration shows a small yellow sphere at center surrounded from upper left to lower right by a semi-circle that has the rough shape of half a pancake with rounded edges. The pancake has a hole in the middle and doesn’t touch the star. The semi-circle is bright yellow closest to the star, orange toward the center, and redder at its round edges. Several large teal arrows are within the semi-circle. Two arrows start in the area nearest the star at the left and right edges of the yellow disk. Each arrow goes immediately up and points outward to the left or right. Two additional large teal arrows appear at far left and far right, following a swooping pattern begun by the first arrows, with each pointing down to the farthest edges of the pancake. Small teal dots begin where the arrows begin, following the arrows, but also are embedded within the pancake forming a straight edge from the inner to the outer regions. A faint red haze extends from the star in the lower left diagonal and the background is black.

Hubble has imaged the largest planet-forming disk ever seen! At 400 billion miles wide, it is roughly 40 times the diameter of our solar system. The disk is unexpectedly chaotic and turbulent, offering new insights into how planetary systems form: bit.ly/477sQ9b 🔭 🧪
Near the center is an object that resembles an edge-on view of a hamburger. There is a diagonal dark strip (the meat patty) of dust, running from 1 o’clock to 7 o’clock, that obscures a central star. Curving away from either side of the dark strip are glowing white clouds (the buns) where dust is reflecting starlight. Bright blue finger-like wisps of material extend far above and below the dark center plane. A few dozen stars, some with four diffraction spikes, are scattered on the black background of space.

this is actually one of the hubble images of all time
An image is split in two. In the bottom left of the first image a bright blue ring appears, slightly fading in all directions, with a small blue dot in the middle. Red and orange waves of gas ripple, arcing from top left to top right. A light blue center appears out of the sea of red, and several bright white dots shine through. NEW: Is frozen water around other stars? #NASAWebb provided proof for the first time: It is! Webb identified water ice around HD 181327, a Sun-like star that lies 155 light-years away. The majority is found where it’s coldest—farthest from the star: webbtelescope.pub/42Vopw0 🔭 🧪
An illustration of Sun-like star HD 181327 and its surrounding debris disk. The star is at top right. It is surrounded by a far larger debris disk that forms an incomplete ellpitical path and is cut off at right. There’s a huge cavity between the star and the disk. The debris disk is shown in shades of light gray. Toward the top and left, there are finer, more discrete points in a range of sizes. The disk appears hazier and smokier at the bottom. The star is bright white at center, with a hazy blue region around it. The background of space is black. The label Artist's Concept appears at lower left.

NEW: Saturn’s moon Titan has weather similar to Earth’s, but driven by methane evaporation and condensation. Astronomers have found evidence for clouds bubbling up over Titan’s northern hemisphere for the first time, using #NASAWebb and Keck observatory: webbtelescope.pub/3GofvQ1 🔭 🧪
Two rows of three images. Top row is labeled Webb 11 July 2023 and the bottom row Keck 14 July 2023). The first column, labeled atmosphere and surface, shows two full-color images of Titan, appearing in mottled shades of yellow and brown with a blue haze around the edges. A bright spot near the top of Titan in each has an arrow pointing to it. The second column, labeled troposphere, shows two images in shades of orange. Each image is relatively featureless except for a bright spot near the top with an arrow. The third column, labeled stratosphere, also shows two images in shades of orange. The top image, taken July 11, is featureless and has no arrow. The bottom image, taken July 14, has a bright spot near the top with an arrow.

NEWS: #NASAWebb captured Lynds 483 in unprecedented detail. Two forming stars hidden in one pixel at the center are responsible for sending out these vibrant jets and outflows. Examine the twists and arcs in these ejections up close: webbtelescope.pub/4h538oK 🔭 🧪
At the center is a thin vertical cloud known as Lynds 483 that is shaped like an hourglass with two lobes and irregular edges. At lower center, in the middle of the hourglass, are two discrete bright white, tiny blobs of light that have raced away from the hidden central stars. The top lobe shows a more prominent orange U-shape. Orange bleeds into light purple, and brighter pink at its edges. Some background stars are visible through sections of this lobe. Higher up, there is an orange arc. Some brighter pink material extends to the top edges near the center. In the lower lobe, less orange is visible. More opaque light purple is in its top third, rippling out into semi-transparent blues and pinks. The lower lobe has more texture. V-shaped areas to the left and right of the lobes are darkest, and the background stars in these areas appear orange. Elsewhere, the black background of space is clearer, speckled with tiny white stars and faint orange galaxies.
