To answer the question: "Starting from nothing, how long does it take to compile and install FastFetch and all its dependencies on a 400MHz Pentium 2?" 4 days. For comparison, modern was 23 minutes.

Installed Ubuntu #Linux on an old Core i7 Dell XPS laptop with 16GB of RAM from 2019. Installation was relatively smooth. Only issue I ran into was with TPM and disk encryption. I'll have to research that later. But so far it's very peppy and feels like a new computer.

I am now doing everything I can to host services for myself and get out from other people’s computers. I find it incredibly rewarding. Nothing is exposed to the open net (I’m running tailscale) and things are working great.
