Since there are people reviving discontinued services by building unofficial servers for them, did anyone do it for Path? It was one of those early 2010s apps when everyone was still figuring out what can be done with smartphones (and they themselves were […] [Original post on mastodon.social]

Easily one of my least-favorite things about modern operating systems is how addicted they are to doing shit in the background on their own with zero feedback to you the user, but blocking things like installing apps for MINUTES while it happens. Here's me […] [Original post on mastodon.social]

Why would anyone even consider eating one of these? What kind of person do you have to be for that to cross your mind at all 🤔🤔 Also I suppose you can eat it if you can't read English.

@dansup MastoAPI discrimination :( A better way to implement this sort of thing would've been to send an ActivityPub DM with a code or a link. I've already seen this somewhere. This way you only use a common ActivityPub feature and don't depend on each server's client API at all.

I've somehow gotten better at seeing AI-generated readmes. It just happens to me subconsciously, I start reading it and feel like something is off, and then I notice: - things phrased the way no human would - too many damn tables - everything comes in threes […] [Original post on mastodon.social]

Now that Smithereen has a "fetch all replies" feature similar to Mastodon's, I get quite annoyed whenever I run into a post hosted on a server that doesn't expose the `replies` collection, like some versions of Misskey.

Or they'd just add some noise as a semi-transparent overlay. Or some OSD text, also as a semi-transparent overlay. But that's not how this stuff works! At least do it to luminance and chrominance separately to have any chance of it looking realistic. OSD […] [Original post on mastodon.social]

@dansup I made an attempt at marketing it. It wasn't very successful. Yes, it's like VK, but it's also like Facebook, which is known worldwide.

#Smithereen update: fetching all replies like Mastodon does it. Smithereen was one of the first fediverse projects to implement reply fetching, if not *the* first one, but so far it has only happened when you loaded a post using the search. Now remote […] [Original post on mastodon.social]

AGI any moment now. And if that's version 1.1, I'm afraid to think what did 1.0 look like. Not shown: it adds a mutation observer to document.body and calls that focusChatInput() function from it. The selector for the text input is at least correct, I checked.

It seems like their script simply doesn't account for the very idea of the issue being on their side. Sigh. Computers are the most predictable and most precise machines that humans have ever built, so it really rubs me the wrong way when someone says "try these things, some of them might help".
