Well but in terms of the prefrontal cortex it does reach what we would call maturity in the mid-twenties. I think people often just mix up "finished developing" with inert.

Not zero. The prefrontal cortex is finished around then typically. The brain is still plastic and capable of forming new connections and changing, but that's when that frontal lobe is considered fully mature.

I've known a number of people who didn't know how to cook for themselves. I just don't think that's enough to declare that they're stupid, have never had an original thought, etc. Often they just weren't taught how to and it takes a little push to get them to learn. Everyone has blind spots.

My point is that when you take these jabs you are furthering the idea that these aspects are bad or shameful, and therefore further the views of the state and continue to be its puppet, merely acting as another vessel for its harmful rhetoric.

Disliking someone doesn't give you a free pass to demean her profession or immigrants. You aren't just badmouthing her, you're shitting on everyone included in that category. If her being a sex worker, or an immigrant who can't speak English, isn't bad by nature, why are we using it to demean then?

It is. Because you have choices. You can find community, you can find other options, and you can fight for change. I go to protests, I volunteer with organizations. These are options I, and people in the UK, wouldn't have in Russia. There's still room to move here, we can make change. Russia can't.

Of course it affects me, I'm a trans person. It all affects me. You're not Russia, you're right, that's all I'm saying. Comparing the two is reductionist and bad form. Trans people have it bad in the UK and US, but we still have certain rights. Fight for better, but don't play pretend about reality.

And that's horrible, but it is not the same thing. I am from one of the worst states in the US for trans people, I understand the struggle, but it is still not the same as what Russia does to trans people. You can't have an opinion, you can't transition no matter the age, you are likely killed there

It's disrespectful to LGBT people from places where they don't even have hate crime laws, where pride or pro lgbt organizations are unlawful, to compare this, however awful it is, to that. It weakens the argument, and it's just wrong.
