Unironically the superior Captain America Brave New World

Griffin Schiller @griffschiller.bsky.social · 12/02/2025

Really loved The Incredible Hulk sequel #CaptainAmericaBraveNewWorld! Oh wait... A film that severely lacks focus & has about as much political insight as a Government 101 class. Sam's story of being the Cap people can aspire to is lost in the mix & only paid lip service. Big TV movie energy.

Kyle MacLachlan breaking my damn heart. David Lynch was an original like no other. I can't even put into words the impact he's had on the art form. Completely shattered 💔

Genuinely impressed by how perfectly Whannell captured the melancholy of the original but funneled through his own anxieties about parenthood & generational "curses." Like Invisible Man, he modernizes the setting and aesthetic while maintaining the timelessness of these horror icons. #WolfManMovie

Leigh Whannell continues to be the master of space & sound with #WolfManMovie. A damn good reimagining that plays like The Shining by way of The Fly. A claustrophobic parental panic attack with nasty body horror & a surprising amount of heart. If you enjoyed The Invisible Man, you'll dig this!

Dragged the whole family to see #Nosferatu at 10pm on Christmas Eve in Dolby. That shit entered our very souls. I don't think a single one of them slept afterwards (they loved it). Couldn't be happier. Merry Christmas Orlock!

#SonicMovie3 rules! This is clearly the story Jeff Fowler most wanted to tell & it shows. More of an emotionally mature focus paves the way for some monumentally EPIC set pieces. Like...DAYUM. Zany, explosive, & tons of fun. It's like Man of Steel meets Moonraker! Keep em coming!

It's beautiful. Can't fucking wait! #Superman is EXACTLY the kind of optimistic, turn the page, jumpstart DC has desperately needed. I feel something special on the horizon.

Insane how literally NO ONE with the exception of MAYBE Russell Crowe walks away unscathed from #KravenTheHunter. Holy hell what in the actual fuck did I just watch. Why was it formless in the most incomprehensible way imaginable? Makes MADAME WEB look like a masterpiece!

Bawled my eyes out at #Interstellar tonight...so what's new. A remarkably poignant odyssey. There's simply nothing else like it. Probably the greatest & most important science fiction masterpiece of the 21st Century thus far. Some thoughts boxd.it/7RHngZ

A Cinematic Masterpiece and flawless exercise in performance & form. There is something so otherworldly, so hellish, carnal & paralyzing about Eggers' descent into human desire & repression that I can't shake. A downright nefarious reimagining that will haunt audiences for years to come. #Nosferatu

A masterful examination of affectation vs inspiration; ambition and adoration; expectations and innovation. Every song is a conversation that beautifully deciphers the enigma of Bob Dylan. Loved it. 3/3 #ACompleteUnknown

What are the odds Nolan goes back to his English Lit roots and throws us all for a loop in adapting an iconic 19th Century Romance. Would be a wild, but welcome pivot from the norm!

As someone who hated the first Smile, jfc...#Smile2?! What a fuckin upgrade. Naomi Scott is giving one of the best performances of the year in this mean, unrelenting, suffocating spiral through fame, addiction, & loneliness. Brutal stuff and I loved every minute of it!

Naomi Scott leaving no crumbs with her tour de force performance in the "this has no right being as good as it is" sequel to Smile.

My pick for the DCU's Batman? Jonathan Bailey. He's already got the desirable playboy persona, but you can fully buy him masking something deeper (#Wicked allows him to show that), a darkness within. I think he'd give us a Bruce adjacent to Kilmer which...would be PERFECT. An inspired pick imo 😏

120

Griffin Schiller @griffschiller.bsky.social · 22/11/2024

#Wicked is...good! Not great. Erivo & Grande are breaking their backs to buoy this thing w/a charming assist from Bailey. It's a testament to the source material that the heart remains intact, but it fails to reach the awe & wonder of the cinematic lineage it's a part of to a frustrating degree...

Jonathan Nolan giving a touching introduction to last night's screening of #Interstellar dedicated to the film's late producer Lynda Obst. Even his speeches put most writers to shame. What a guy.
