Yeesh. Took a break from Bluesky and the internet at large for a few months only to come back and within days apparently commit unforgivable atrocities according to people who know nothing about me. Perhaps I'll just go offline again. Seems like it was better that way. Wishing you all the best ✌️

I've certainly made mistakes in life, just as we all have done. My mistake in this case is clearly not that I tried a piece of software, rather that I posted on Bluesky about it. I suppose I'll try different bits and bobs of tech silently in my own little corner.

The fact that one can try a piece of software and then any random stranger who know nothing about them will just immediately assume they are now a terrible person who supports words of a person they don't even know exists is insane to me.

Didn't exactly download the free open source software knowing that or with any intention of supporting them. I don't plan to provide any funding or support to them. And now that I am aware of this apparent issue, I won't be promoting or sharing more about the OS publicly.

I do respect your right to an opinion and your passion for the topic, and I appreciate you taking the time to have some amount of discourse about it, as well as for agreeing to let it rest when it's clear that I'm not going to care about this nearly as deeply as you.

The choice to *try* an *operating system*? I didn't throw my life away. I used software for 2 hours LOL. The positively fantastic news for you is that my using a piece of software to try it for a couple of hours doesn't have to impact your life at all!

I did not Google it, Claude it, ChatGPT it, or whatever. I recalled hearing the name out in the internet somewhere a few months back and since I was planning on wiping my OS anyhow, I figured, "why not?"

My knowledge of Omachy = 2 hrs I've spent using it. I typically spend at least a couple of weeks with a piece of technology when trying things before forming any super strong opinions. Yes I am aware of Arch's rolling release model & the pain it brings. I've used Arch-based distros.

Not that I would base a decision purely off random internet folks' opinions, but if any of the folks would like to actually provide a constructive suggestion of something that turnkey looks and functions quite similar to it that is less controversial, I am absolutely open to those suggestions! 😁

That said, I don't know a single thing about the creator/maintainer. That is true of MANY things I interact with in my life.
000
Griff Barker @griff.systems · 02/10/2026
My main problem is just that if I didn't interact with a single thing/person/created/maintained by people/orgs that have said or done things I don't agree with, I would have next to nothing in life. I won't financially support those things or make contributions to those things, but I'll use them.

Apparently now is not the time to discover and like Omarchy, according to the internet? Lol.

I keep finding things that are like, "yes! that is how I would want that to work!" by default. It's only day 1, so it could be rose colored glasses, but we'll see.

Been a lot more offline lately. Just powered on my Garuda Linux desktop for the first time in a couple of months and was reminded of some weird issues I was having before shutdown. Took the opportunity to wipe OS and give Omarchy a try and oh my...this feels really good!

Today I realized that for ~20 years I've been saying the name of this location in Old School RuneScape incorrectly... "BurthROpe" vs. "BurthORpe" Huh.

Any #WinRM users out there on Linux/macOS that use #PowerShell. I've been busy trying to get the v3 release of my module ready to go but this is a massive shift from how it used to work. Would love to get some real world testing to identify issues before I release it. github.com/jborean93/PS...

Crazy concept to me. What a shame! I'm not even thinking about that. I just care if the content inside the book is interesting and well-written. I can't imagine living life caring about the gender of the person who wrote a book. That sounds exhausting.

It was 52°F in the high deserts of Nevada this morning during my morning bike ride and I couldn't agree more. Though I realistically know deep down there are hot days aplenty remaining this summer 🫠

I think that speaks more about the "enterprise" (organization) and less about PowerShell. Places I've worked have had plenty of highly functional PowerShell scripts, apps, etc. with CI and all, well documented, running production services.

Makes sense, given you are typing commands from one shell into an entirely different shell. Get-ChildItem (gci) is what you'd be looking for instead of ls. Select-String (sls) is what you'd be looking for instead of grep.

Windows Terminal is a very competent terminal emulator! It isn't my first choice outside of work, but it's my go-to at work and I never really have issues with it. PowerShell is awesome, but does take some adjustment and willingness to learn. Also a fan of Windows Sandbox for similar reasons.

I've thought to potentially do DSCv3 configuration via my dotfiles repo in the future, but I don't set up a new Windows machine often enough for it to matter too much. I spend most of my time on my Linux desktop or my MacBook.

Plenty of things I want installed (Zen Browser, Ghostty, Neovim, VSCode, Signal, Docker, GitHub Desktop, Claude Code, etc.) and that's all handled nicely via the dotfiles repo and winget.

Laptop to phone for sure. Frequently. Nothing else really. USB-C is so ubiquitous there's pretty much always a better power source available to me rather than plug something into my phone.
