Took a flight that was of the “entertainment available on your own device” type. Fine Land. Sleep a night. Wake up and start listening to a podcast and the volume shredded my eyeballs (shrapnel from my eardrums) I guess airplanes are loud or something and I had turned up the volume on my device?

I can admit it… I used to do it a lot. I thought of it as red ink on somebody’s essay. Which, as an explanation, doesn’t sound like a non-assed thing to do. It wasn’t about what I believed. I stopped (slowed down?) when a friend called me an ass, and I believed them.

Did (pardon my mistake above) Dr Mystal give political advice for winning election? I heard it as a policy critique with a character critique kicker. I doubt Dr Mystal would have said things the way he did if Dr El-Sayed had said “I also hear that we need court reform and I’m for that, too.”

If you open your mouth and a policy comes out, people want to know what that policy stance says about you. Like any others words… His critique was helpful in showing what he was trying to show: that Dr El-Sayed doesn’t **care** about court reform the way Mr Mystal wants him (everybody) to.

I’m pretty strictly “2x through or I don’t tell anybody I’ve read a book” because I miss a lot of details and connection the first time through. I think it’s just that I get the story (thesis and structure) the first time and not much else. The 2nd time is when I meet the characters…

I should add that there are lots of ways to get high quality information from far away, but if you are waiting for it to just come to you through some feed or another, then yeah, you’re out of luck. Or have to find or curate higher quality feeds.

On one hand, it was important to SCOTUS to do things slowly so that legislatures would think they are doing things in a constitutionally safe way, and you can kill more birds when the stone really flies. On the other hand, it’s CalvinBall (or at least Lucy and Charlie Brown) so nothing matters.

The FDA can ban glass in flour as long as there is a partisan advantage for the republicans: Republicans eat more flour than Democrats, and we the FDA are trying to injure Democrats, not Republicans. It is counter to our political program to allow more Republicans to be hurt than Democrats.
