Just a little grey duck in a big grey world. He/him. (Not to be mistaken for ho/hum.) If I have a "main topic" it's the game #Satisfactory. My main textual output is (or should be, if I'm behaving myself) over at my not-a-blog: greyduck.net

Here's one for the X-Files fans in the audience. I took advantage of a rock-clearing failure in tonight's solo #Satisfactory session to throw a quick meme image together...
Satisfactory video game screenshot w/ text overlay in "meme" form: Pioneer stands in a pose of pure frustration, hands to helmet, because a rock was not removed via explosive charge detonation and is instead hanging in the air in, as Douglas Adams once put it, "exactly the way that bricks don't." Overlaid text reads, "I want to be... rid of this rock!" The composition is an homage to the famous X-Files TV show "I Want To Believe" poster.

Tonight was Massive Undertakings Night. Spud's still putting together the various things we'll need to have a safe & steady nuclear power operation, I'm partway through placing 160 refineries to make just one item, and Nyx? She's building a late-game factory from base ore. Huge project!
Satisfactory video game screenshot: Three exhausted Pioneers perched high above the swamp. In the background is part of a sprawling huge factory. It's night, and a ringed gas giant planet dominates the sky.

Spud and Nyx ended up doing a lot of building in the swamp while I laid the groundwork in the nearby desert for making *stupendous* quantities of copper powder, because Reasons. We're homing in on endgame one chunk of progress at a time!
Satisfactory video game screenshot: A "selfie" of a Pioneer backed by various fancy machinery in the eastern desert biome on a mostly cloudy night. (Not pictured: The shiny multicolored beams that are supposed to be emanating from two of the machines in the immediate background, but my computer refused to generate for some reason. Sigh.)

Happy birthday to my favorite game. #Satisfactory
Satisfactory video game screenshot: The Pioneer poses (pointing at a cardboard cutout of another Pioneer) inside the Hub's living-and-office-space area which is festively decorated with balloons and a disco ball and light-up floor tiles and other whatnot to celebrate the anniversary date of the game's 1.0 release.

This session was as much "hashing out plans" as it was "implementing plans," but we now have a clear(-ish) direction for the future. Plus, my new railway blueprints look pretty sharp! (I'm so proud of them.)
Satisfactory video game screenshot: Three Pioneers stand posed... well, "posed" atop a covered railway roundabout. In the backdrop is Spud's ever-growing nuclear power complex, planted right at the seaward edge of the swamp biome.

Slightly concerned that the game wants me to physically grab a double-handful of radioactive doodads in order to complete the final of my MAM research objectives. #Satisfactory
Satisfactory video game partial screenshot: A To-Do list showing several items needed to complete an objective, including Nobelisk (grenades), Encased Uranium Cells (nuclear power fuel production line item) and AI Limiters (a thing we probably wish we had for real right now).

Nyx made more Crystal Oscillators (with the aid of Truck-kun), Spud built basically an entire nuclear power plant, and I made Superposition Oscillators. Not bad considering we had to get our bearings again after a month and a half off!
Satisfactory video game screenshot: Three Pioneers pose on a metal and glass platform in the swamp biome. Behind them are rows and stacks of manufacturers, particle accelerators, and nuclear power generators.

My fellow #Satisfactory nerds, am I the only one who revisits perfectly-good blueprints and plays around with the visual design for no good reason other than "make it look cooler"? It can't be just me, right?
Satisfactory video game screenshot: In the middle of a grassy field stands a railway "roundabout" structure, not attached to anything, just placed there as a test of the blueprint. Compared to its predecessor it's rather "extra," as some might say. All in black, with steel pillars holding up a steel-and-glass roofing superstructure.

It's been a good, one might even say #Satisfactory, morning spent toodling away on the last factory I'll ever* need to build. (* - In this save. And yes I'm already in the prep stages for the next one. Don't judge; this game keeps me going, some days.)
Satisfactory video game screenshot: Overhead view of a factory platform on which stands a variety of large manufacturing machinery. It's in the desert, in the rain.

Spent my lunch hour poking around at the new mastery in #GrimDawn and... so far so good, though I have concerns about trying to use Nightblade dual-weapon passives. Hmm. Also: I regret nothing.

Got a new lamp (standing floor lamp instead of tiny shelftop lamp) for the office, which prompted me to rearrange the display level of a couple of my shelves. It's just a *skosh* snazzier in here now.
Picture of some media shelves (CDs and Blu Rays and books) with various types of figurines lined up on top: Holo the Wise Wolf (Spice & Wolf), Hilda Valentine Goneril, Edelgard von Hresvelg, Dorothea Arnault, Petra Macneary (those four from Fire Emblem Three Houses), Kafka (Honkai Star Rail), a "golden" FICSIT mug from Satisfactory... then further along, Reinhard von Lohengramm (Legend of the Galactic Heroes), Sakurajima Mai (Rascal Does Not Dream), Captain Marika of the Bentenmaru (Bodacious Space Pirates), and... Holo the Wise Wolf again. On the wall are small artworks depicting Fire Emblem Three Houses characters Shamir Nevrand and the aforementioned Dorothea and Petra.

Those of you still using Google Apps-or-whatever for your family email plans (don't judge me, I won't judge you), have your admin pop into the control UI and make sure *all* of the various GenAI options are "off" for all the various bits. They're opted-in by default. Of course.

Was this the *most efficient* way to get down to the canyon floor from the top of the cliffs? Oh, definitely not. Was it the *funniest* way? Heck yeah, that's part of why I did it. #Satisfactory
Satisfactory video game screenshot: A rocky promontory, some red cliffs, and a canyon floor, all with train lines running over, around, and through. Spiraling structures are used at two locations to achieve most of the elevation change.

A really solid session tonight, even though I almost literally did nothing but run train lines. I completed the 'round-the-map loop, though, and that's not nothin'. Also Nyx got her Crystal Os site under way, and Spud is laying the groundwork for the nuclear power we need (very much).

Good news! Nobody's game crashed this time! We all had to make some settings adjustments, but other than that: Smooth sailing. Whew.

Oh goodness gracious 1.2 has some multiplayer ISSUES right now. We ended up bailing early because one of us couldn't even build things, even after a full game restart. (Which means it was a problem on the host end.) Might have to put this on hold until we see some encouraging patch notes.

Can I offer you three barnyard duckies in this trying time?
Three small rubber ducks sit on a window ledge, lined up side by side. One is styled to look vaguely like a chicken, the next like a horse, and the last like a pig. Sort of. They're cute, anyway. Sort of.

This was one of those "make lots of machines but nothing fancy to show for it" sessions, but it was all work that needed doing. Soon we'll have fast shiny glowy belts, though!

Welp. Time for a whole new way of dealing with kingdom progress in #GemsOfWar. A shakeup of some kind is long overdue for this decade-or-so-old game, but how did they do? Guess I'm finding out.

My main accomplishment was automating Explosive Rebar... after first actually researching it. (Whoops.) Spud and Nyx finished up the "Megadrone" SAM supply-and-storage system, so they definitely put in more useful work this week!
Satisfactory video game screenshot: Three Pioneers posing in front of the "To Do" sign structure. The signs read: "Desert Munitions Site / Ducky want big boom." "Ficsite Trigons / Mk6 belts c'moooon" "Find things to do / SAM Flux then do Time Crystals"

For once I was *not* the God of Trains. Spud took on that role, plus building a Packaged Rocket Fuel site. I was the God of Drones, while Nyx was the Goddess of... fixing my beltwork mistake, among other things. (Whoopsie.) But we've got Phase 4 products largely completed! Next up: MOAR POWER.

We made *huge* progress. For instance, I'm better-than-halfway on my Heavy Modular Frames factory. (The goal is nearly double-digit production, so... yeah, it's *big*.) Also, I didn't win the photo shoot contest but I'm proud of my result anyway, so, here:

Played some #Satisfactory to unwind after a *weird* work week. This weekend I hope to at least have my 2nd (was supposed to be 1st) Rocket Fuel power plant producing fuel. Placing the 144 generators will take... some time. But that's a Tomorrow!Me problem.

I know why, YouTube, and I'm still not turning off my adblocker. I'll live with your "gonna punish you by making you wait five seconds before starting the video" nonsense. Keep making the experience worse and I'll decrease the amount of time I use your service.
YouTube informational popup dialog at the lower left corner of any given video's page, which reads "Experiencing interruptions? Find out why." When one places their mouse cursor over the "Find out why" one can see it leads to a document about why adblockers are bad for you or something, dunno, I didn't click on it let alone read it, because lawl nope.

Still on the #Satisfactory train (as it were). The last few solo sessions involved making blueprints (mostly for drone stuff) and laying railway tracks (toward the site where I intend to build Supercomputers And Such). A good unwind-on-Friday activity, that.

We sent up the Phase 3 shipment via Space Elevator, and while waiting for the shipment to complete we worked on a few side projects. Me? I beautified some of the railway structures. Because that's my thing, I suppose.
Satisfactory video game screenshot: In a rocky desert under partly cloudy skies, a bunch of monorail lines criss-cross a busy section of the map full of train stations and buildings and various equipment.
