We Need A Way To Prove Personhood Online | NOEMA
The growing number of AI agents roaming the internet will eventually force us to verify what the old web mostly presumed: that there is a morally and legally accountable person somewhere in the chain.

I don't think that we evolved biologically or culturally to process the explosively growing ambivalence which we can easily experience these days, where we're aware that many actions and strategies simultaneously contain immense costs, benefits, risks AND opportunities.

If we got past our situationally convenient bullshit excuses for vengeful and punitive behaviors, we could effectively discuss the reasonable boundaries of protective use of force.

The visual model of Inclusive Action Framework may become the keystone of Inclusive Organizing. Alt text description in comments below.
Inclusive Action Framework of acting, reacting, adapting, interpreting and conversing via thesis, antithesis and synthesis to create/design via sourcing, harvesting, specifying, prototyping, proposing and deciding to generate constitutional practices, collective practices, governed activities, network activities and other activities with a support system of consulting confidantes, teams, communities and external help to navigate and transform tensions.

Anytime someone holds concentrated wealth and power, they're constantly motivated to justify holding it instead of sharing it or giving it away. This motivation works steadily and perniciously.

Right-sized relationships: in most aspects of life we need far greater tolerance of diverse perspectives and self-determination, BUT society is unsustainably hurtling toward potential doom because we complicitly feed deeply destructive forces, and that must change asap.

The problem with this world is that the vast majority of clearly preventable harm occurs through deeply normalized behaviors (actions and inactions) which can't be easily vilified. We can only marginalize such behaviors by growing deeply prosocial partnerships and communities.

Surprisingly well-detailed perspective, although pessimistic in some areas where I see uncertainty-- plus, doesn't show awareness of the core problem with "democracy" (i.e. electing representatives who use factionalized majoritarian decision-making, instead of prioritizing consent and partnership.)

The most secure and sustainable foundation for policy is to place a clear and sincere emphasis on positive interactions and desired behaviors.

Greg Cassel @gregsc1.bsky.social · 29/07/2026
We're each bound to many communities, but one key feature of healthy prosocial culture (and community) is to repeatedly generate optionality in most relationships and interactions. This doesn't mean that there's no role for commitment, but we should often rethink why and when.
020
Greg Cassel @gregsc1.bsky.social · 28/07/2026
In creating or describing optional assignable roles, we should start by describing the expectations (i.e. purpose or function) and then define any permissions or benefits which aren't clearly present within that description.

It's amazing how many powerful people, in the US and elsewhere, intentionally endure the POTUS publicly and explicitly threatening war crimes. I know that he and his cronies have been "flooding the zone" but could we just hold a thought long enough to hold him accountable for that?

Some people in my circles have understandably been criticizing "efficiency". It's a good time to not throw the baby out with the bathwater! There are at least two bad types of "efficiency" in this bathwater: (1) extraction of value (2) subjugation of valid creative tension

It's terribly important to prioritize marginalized & precarious people, but also to not unfairly vilify or harm others. Not implying that we can be perfectly fair (or perfectly anything) as we explore ethical issues, but we must work to minimize preventable and often counterproductive harms.

We don't need & shouldn't have specialized apps for all sorts of social purposes. We need a few generic apps to securely decentralize digital signaling & computing so that we can use a boundless variety of live & asynchronous social protocols, including project and community governance tools.

It's important to act when the costs of inaction clearly exceed the costs of acting, even if those costs include the violation of existing agreements or policies. Consent-based governance can proactively address this in several ways:

I don't think that the development of low tech or tech-agnostic protocols should be constrained by the development of high tech protocols.

Greg Cassel @gregsc1.bsky.social · 07/07/2026
One type of centralization is when we bundle technical dependencies between services which otherwise are (or seem to be) independent of each other. We can develop more prosocial and sustainable tech scalability by developing technical optionality.

It's not important to blame or hate people who do awful things; in fact it's counterproductive, because it distracts us from the actual treatable causes of harm.

The SCOTUS ruling on Slaughter is dangerous, but it could motivate Congress and the judicial branch to gird their loins regarding separation of powers, including Congress' constitutional authority to impeach civil (executive) officials for "Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors".

I'm disgusted by most conceptions of "loyalty", and that bleeds into notions of "solidarity". However, people do naturally care most about whoever & whatever is closest to them, which naturally amplifies the importance of trust & gratitude. Can we develop that in ways which aren't blindly loyal?

Greg Cassel @gregsc1.bsky.social · 25/05/2026
We need perfectly p2p computing & networking tech to optimize the development of boundlessly scalable self-organizing. However, existing tech would easily suffice to do everything which we already do in digital networking, equitably & rather efficiently, if not for extractive culture & companies.

The essential nature of bureaucracy is to enslave each other to deterministic policies and procedures.

Lots of people on all sides of divisive issues promote bad science and pseudoscience re: subjects which are MUCH too complex & dynamic to determine conclusively. This probably reflects fears of uncertainty and, often, related yearnings to distinguish heroes from villains.

If I could share just one idea with random strangers, it's that majority voting is the primary vehicle of domination culture, and that's deeply awful. Majority voting isn't universally wrong, but it should only be a last resort for emergencies, instead of being the basis of decision-making systems.
000
Greg Cassel @gregsc1.bsky.social · 18/05/2026
No matter how successfully we organize locally and regionally, we are always at risk of being dominated by larger systems, unless our largest systems are prosocial partnerships.
020
Greg Cassel @gregsc1.bsky.social · 07/05/2026
The key to scalable self-organizing is that we reliably update our delegated roles to decentralize power when it concentrates excessively in persons, subgroups or organizations. That's the source of prosocial scalability.

In racing, you have to go through a checkpoint within a time limit in order to continue at all. That's what the 2026 midterm elections are like for democracy.
110
Greg Cassel @gregsc1.bsky.social · 30/04/2026
One of the key problems in US politics is that primaries with majority voting encourage polarizing candidates & campaigns. This has profoundly polarizing effects on the rest of our political landscape. Representational politics is innately limited, but this optional feature is deeply dumb.
