I believe you’re looking at the change in the long tail of the distribution and trying to generalize it to the average.

I do wonder and worry about how things will work when “the basics” includes things developed post-AI, where maybe most of the documentation is AI-generated.

Gregor Thomas @gregorthomas.bsky.social · 23/06/2026
I think rather than thinking about exactly which basics to teach, teaching the habit to ask AI about stuff you don’t know in AI response could work. It ought to be quite good at explaining the basics… at least for now…

It has a similar risk of unhelpful/incorrect things to try as a forum, but the instant response unfailingly supportive tone make me feel safe asking additional questions without worrying about asking dumb questions. In that way I think I learn more using AI than hunting forums for an answer

I installed Linux on an old laptop last weekend, something I haven’t done in 15 years or so. Getting a working driver for the WiFi chip was a real pain, but Claude helped a lot and made the process much less frustrating. …

It’s abysmal. It takes minimum 3x the clicks and 5x the time for me to find and open a document in Teams vs Google Drive. And there’s a long tail on that, sometimes it’s much more time because I just can’t find the document and the search sucks.

They would have a much different country."FactPost News tweets a video of Donald Trump speaking at a podium. In the video he says: "We can't take care of daycare. We're a big country. In grad school I was reading about reproducibility and loved the ideas but obviously didn’t really get it because I spent an embarrassing number of weeks running my entire data pipeline everyday so I could pick up work at the end. It took 10-15 minutes every day.

I think they might have better luck spending two thousand dollars holding a press conference where they detail who made the key decisions to collaborate with the Trump administration, how and when they were fired, and explaining what would stop that from happening again.

To give you an idea of how deranged the UK has become about gender stuff, here's Enid Blyton - the absolute avatar of classic English conservatism and a huge fan of racist "gollywogs" - casually describing a gender non-conforming kid in the 1940s and having their friends be totally cool with it.
"I say! Are you Georgina?"
The child in the opposite bed sat up and looked across at Anne. She had very short
curly hair, almost as short as a boy's. Her face was burnt a dark-brown with the sun, and
“Famous Five 01 - Five On A Treasure Island” By Enid Blyton 7
her very blue eyes looked as bright as forget-me-nots in her face. But her mouth was
rather sulky, and she had a frown like her father's.
"No," she said. "I'm not Georgina."
"Oh!" said Anne, in surprise. "Then who are you?"
"I'm George," said the girl. "I shall only answer if you call me George. I hate being a girl.
I won't be. I don't like doing the things that girls do. I like doing the things that boys do. I
can climb better than any boy, and swim faster too. I can sail a boat as well as any
fisher-boy on this coast. You're to call me George. Then I'll speak to you. But I shan't if
you don't."
"Oh!" said Anne, thinking that her new cousin was most extraordinary. "All right! I don't
care what I call you. George is a nice name, I think. I don't much like Georgina. Anyway,
you look like a boy."

Let's talk about the midterms. ICE is terrorizing and punishing blue states and cities to suppress your votes using fear from ICE- yes it's already started. Blue states need to wake up and have a plan to deploy the National Guard to protect polling stations & voters from the federal government!

AOC: This has now become what we feared most about ICE for a long time—that it would be used as an anti-civilian force with no accountability. At the end of the day, what we saw today was a murder, and murders in cold blood need to be prosecuted.

Oil is the most Lovecraftian thing that actually exists. You're telling me that there's a black ichor under the earth, made from the ancient dead, whose burning can realize all the dreams of man but only at the price of slowly returning the earth to its primordial state?
